King's X Report post Posted October 24, 2009 several months ago, a member requested ideas for a product that they could use to make a "shell" or "carcass" for a laptop case. I took a look at Kevin's new product at Springfield, Kydex. Now, I know that this stuff is not really new, but it is the first time I saw that it has been offerred for public sale. I know, I know, I could be wrong, but this is just my side. Anyways, to that member and others, Kydex is a good product and by the looks of the demo video on SLC site, it can be formed quite easily to the needs of a "laptop case." Jim Murnak uses a lot of Kydex in his holsters, cases, and quivers from what I understand. I have looked at it before and it seems to me to be the sort of material that lends itself well to all sorts of applications where you would want a stiff and durable substrate to bond to. MADMAX22 Report post Posted October 24, 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kydex I really first saw its use in variouse cases and then in holster manufacture several years ago, not sure when I first saw it as I never really cared much about it back then, probably 10 yrs ago or so. I think its been big in holster making for that long hence when it first started getting popular in this field. Mostly anyplace offering it for sale for public (non business) was mainly for holsters.
