  1. Thanks for your advice, allow me to clarify. The belt making the most ruckus is a mystery braid belt made from 9 oz saddle skirting. I edged both sides of all three strands on the top and bottom, and braided it so that the rough side is facing outward. I now suspect that the contact between the strands accounts for much of the noise, so perhaps my question is less directed at the type of leather that I used and more towards correcting the issue in future belts of this style. Have others dealt with this when making mystery braids?
  2. The last piece of natural veg tanned leather I used made exceptionally squeaky belts. My girlfriend politely informed me that it sounds like I'm wearing a diaper when I walk. Does anybody have an idea as to why this leather is so noisy and what I can do to reduce the squeaking?
  3. I've been working on a "mystery braid" belt and I'm having a hard time preventing the leather from creasing and developing a boarded appearance. How do others avoid this? Thanks,
  4. Glendon, I think you're right about the shift toward a rounded tip. It just seems silly to me to use a novelty item without any authenticity. I personally prefer the older style so I'm exploring different ways of acquiring such picks. Kevin, I've only seen one type of pick from Weaver and it's too large for my use, I will have to see what the other size looks like. If anyone has a picture of both for comparison that would be helpful. Thanks
  5. Thanks, the picture featuring two belts shows the old style pointed pick on a dark brown belt, and the newer rounded version on the natural belt. I also included a larger image of the pointed version which I am looking to have recreated or used as a basis for a custom design. I look forward to hearing from you.
  6. I work in Kentucky and I get a lot of requests for hoof pick belts. The source I have been using for folding hoof picks has switched to a pick with a rounded tip. I am trying to track to find a maker that is still crafting the pointed version. I've tried several sites that show images of the older pointed style, but after receiving the order I've learned that they too have switched to the rounded version. Weaver's version is too large for my needs. Can anybody here point me to someone that still makes the pointed style or to a metal crafter that would be willing to make something custom? Much appreciation, Matthew
