I would to make a cigar case.

here is my inspiration ( the second down, right after the humidor) :-)

http://www.turtlemoo.../cigarcases.htm

well, I;ve never done anything like this so I have lots of questions and hoping that someone could help me to get started.

1) what is the order in which the work is done? painting with acrylic or dying the case?

2) is painting done over died leather or not?

3) what kind of finish was done on this case to get such a nice warm brown color?

4) sealant ? is it applied all over the piece after it completed or just the painted stuff?

I know it's a lot of questions but if someone at least point me to some books or maybe tutorials that could help me get started I would greatly appreciate it.

thank you!

I will give my two-cents for what it is worth. I currently make reproduction medieval type armor. I use dye as my base, and then use Angelus Acrylic paint as my next layer. I then use antique to pull out the tooling marks and seal it. Still working on the "perfect" formula, but Im pretty happy with my results. My biggest suggestion is not to waste your time with Cova, which Tandy supplies. In my experience it just cracks and peels, or doesnt even adhere to the leather and peels right off in a sheet. I personally recommend http://turtlefeathers.net/text/product-index.html for all your paint needs....super fast delivery and resonable pricing.
