Hole Punch

Recommended Posts

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LEATHER-HOLE-PUNCH-DEEP-THROAT-BELT-3-25-WIDE-/390306323222 this is the only link that I could find that shows the type of hole punch I'm inquiring about.

Can anyone tell me if these particular punches are good?

Also is there a name for them? I can get one relatively cheap so I was looking for info on it, seems like a good idea for punching belts and straps.

Thanks for looking.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I haven't tried such lightweigth version of that kind of punch with leather.

In the heavy industry I know such a devices like a "Deep Throat punch".

This is a version I had a deal with :)

I also attached a video for how hand operated "big bro" version works on alu:

I call them a Whitney (SP) Hand punch. The Whitney made in US was a fine tool for metal. Have used imports that were at best Junk.

For leather they will tear the hole not cut.

Spend your money on drive punches.

Actually what is shown is not really a leather punch although it will make holses in leather. It is better for punching holes in thin metal and kydex. You can get a really good rotary hole punch from Springfield for around $39 that looks identical to the $85 Osborne and even takes the Osborne tubes. I have two and they are absolutely top flight even though they are imports. You can find the same punch on eBay sometimes for about $32 after shipping.

Kind of a neat punch for portability but I don't see where it has a belt hole (oval) punch available for it? I just picked up a couple of these for doing collars - I like the way the oval hole allows the leather to lie down a little smoother than round holes does - I chuck it up in a modified hand arbor with a break clamped to the table and it's really helped in the uniformity of the finished piece.

Where you at Kevin? If you have access to princess auto stores, the have hand arbors on sale often.

Cheers bud

Thanks, I'm in Nova Scotia, we have a Princess Auto in Dartmouth. I'll keep my eyes open I go there semi regularly.

Thanks to you and all that replied. I hadn't seen one of these before.
