Holster For Glock 17 W/surefire X300

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some assistance with a design request for a leather holster for a Glock 17 with a Surefire X300 weaponlight. I don't have any issues with the basic pattern for a Glock 17, but I'm looking for advice, pictures or any anecdotal support from anyone who's done one to fit with a weaponlight attached.

The request is for something either belt or molle compatible. I have a couple of ideas for the attachment, but I'm still hung up on the weaponlight and the fit in the holster. I usually rely on the trigger molding for tension. This won't be possible (I do'nt think) with a weapon light. Has anyone done this, and can anyone share some insight?

When you make a holster for anything with a light rail attached, it's pretty much going to resemble a pouch. You can get some molding in to help with retention, but since the light is almost always bigger than the trigger guard, your tension is going to be less than ideal. The best option I've found is to mold as well as possible and add a thumb strap.

I have done a cross-draw for a Stoeger with an attached light/laser combo and am currently working on a right-handed holster for a Ruger PX4 with an attached laser. For the Stoeger, since it was a cross-draw I was able to design it as an Avenger but backwards (triger to the bend and slide to the seam) and yes, it was more of a pouch. The Ruger is being done as a hybrid Avenger. I have a formed Kydex sleeve that will guide the laser into position and maintain the rigidity of the trigger area and the slide section will again be boned for the retention properties. If I were to do the Stoeger again, I would probably remove the rear tunnel loop and incorporate another slide attachemnt to pull the grip in closer. As it stands, the customer was thrilled with it as the grip sticking out as it does cleared his belly and made it easier for him to draw across his body.

Here is the Stoeger in rough form. No pics of the Ruger yet.
