Is Tan kote and Super Sheen the same? Does it accomplish the same objective. What about Neat-lac?

I appreciate the lesson.

No they are not the same. A high level view of each:

Tan Kote is a resin based finish and will leave a mellow gloss finsih.

Supershene (old one) is an acrylic based finish and will leave a high gloss finish.

Supershene (new eco-flow) is a water based finish and will also leave a high gloss finish.

Neatlac, isn't produced anymore, but is a laquer based finish and will give a high gloss finish.

Rawhide,

Neat-Lac is still available from Tandy, at least here in Virginia. #21984-00 is the Pint and #21985-00 is the Quart. Don't know how much longer it will be here with the move towards those eco-friendly things.

Better get it while you can if you like it. The company that made it will not be making it anymore.

I have used neat-lac but was warned it will crack and leave a not so nice finish. Any thoughts on this?

If you work it into the leather with some clipped sheeps wool, that should minimize the cracking. If you spray it however, it's bound to crack.

I appreciate the lesson. I just hear about all of these reciepes for finishing projects and I guess I really don't know why things are added when they are. "Neat-Lac before antique finish?" etc. The reason I asked about Tan-kote and Supershene (eco) is because it has cracked on me on just about every project that I used it on especially where it bends like my new notepad.

Thanks.
