Wool Lined Holster?

Recommended Posts

Is it a bad idea to line gunleather with wool?

I have been thinking of making a couple of wool lined items to carry my pistol and a rifle on the UTV.

I haven't seen any others and I wondered if there was a problem with the gun finish and the wool. I've had the blueing rub off with unlined hosters and thought I would ask. Does anybody know? Maybe it holds the dirt.

I was thinking a compleatly inclosed sleve for the rifle that would double as the carry case.

If wool is a bad idea, then what is the best way to finish the inside of the holster to preserve the gun finish?

Thanks, Ken

BAD idea Ken. The wool will attract and hold itty, bitty droplets of moisture from the atmosphere and leave little, bitty orange rust spots all over your shooter. Wool and shooters don't mix. JMHO Mike

and the amount of dirt, grime and other stuff trapped in the wool would polish off any protective coating and leave bare metal for those water droplets to make a heck of a mess.

you're going to get finish wear no matter what you do. It is just part of the game. Don't think of it as 'wear' think of it as 'character' thumbsup.gif
