Singer Model 153 W 103 with fixed foot

Recommended Posts

I saw this advertised locally and after googling the net didn't find much info. Is this a machine that is capable of sewing knife sheaths, webbing and possibly holsters? Thank you to whoever maybe able to help.

We have one of these at work. It was originally bought to sideseam cowboy boots, now we use it for sewing knee pads onto flaps on English saddles. I think its great for medium duty, but I don't think it would work too well for three heavy pieces of leather such as a sheath or holster. But that's just my experience, I haven't tried it on anything really heavy. Kevin

Thank you Kevin. I was afraid of that. He seemed like an awfully good deal. akraven

Hi Raven,

The 153W103 is a nice machine for medium work. It is one of the few reasonably priced machines in this category with a cylinder arm, it also has the drop feed in addition to the needle feed. In factory trim, these machines were setup to run 2000spm and sometimes more, you would need to slow that down a bit, maybe a new motor. It uses a 135X16 needle system and a max thread of about 138. No reverse, but that never bothered them. Not knowing what shape it is in, I wouldn't pay over about $200-$300 for it complete, but it would make a welcome addition to the machine room for medium duty cylinder arm work, if the price is right and if it is tight.

Thank you for the extra info Art. It sounds like it wo't work for sheaths so I am not interested. It was priced at $600 but here in Alaska everything is expensive. Akraven
