I was wondering what gauge of metal do you all prefer for seat tins. Also, what is your opinion on Bill Bean's seat tin that Sheridan Leather sells.

When I was making saddles, I really liked Bill Bean's seat tins a lot. Saved time and heavier gauge than most of the others.

22 ga and I cut and shape my own. Every so often i go to a local sheet metal shop and get a 4X8 sheet cut up into 'blanks' . They aren't smooth and pretty but get covered up anyway.

I eventually used 16 gauge. Heavier than most, but worth it. Gave a really solid, secure feel to the seat. I had a sheet metal shop cut out 20-30 at a time and pre-drill the nail holes.
