Requesting Advice

Hi! I am new to this site and created this blog to create conversations about how I can get started designing leather handbags. I know absolutely nothing about getting the bags manufactured or finding a leather professional to aid in the design process. I'm not even sure this is the correct site to go about this, but I have to start somewhere! Basically to sum it all up I'm an aspiring leather handbag designer and I am trying to decide which route would be the best route to take when looking for someone to handmake or put into production my handbag designs. I'm going to start small and see where it takes me from there. Any advice that anyone can provide would be most helpful and greatly appreciated!

depending on the level of layout and design you create making that pattern or creating a workflow to manufacture can be time consuming. There are also many aspects of design that don't carry through to a maker. What you can draw on paper might require toolsets that bring an even higher dollar. do you plan to build any bags yourself or just want to design? I would urge you to also build. Your design eye will develop much faster. You don't have to invest in industrial machines for fine leathers, you can work with cheap knits and build your designs and have a good idea what you would want to keep in your designs. Just a few thoughts. Good luck on your journey! make it happen!

I agree. You can get basic patterns online sites such as Tandy Leather. They also have videos to show you how. For garment and bag material you can use a home machine to sew with. I just posted a tote I'm working on and I'm showing the different steps. It might help. Hey send me the design and I'll make it for you. I'm retired and love projects. I just got on this site so I see your post was in July . My site is Hap's Leather, Harry Phillips. Don't get discourage, get in there and follow your dream.
