Troubleshooting Burnishing edges

Tried burnishing edges of natural veg tanned 6oz leather w/ gum tragacanth... but there are dark water lines and the edges appear much lighter than the rest of the leather.

How would I fix this?

almost looks like you didnt edge it correctly. there should be a slight bevel on the corners of the leather. also what speed were you burnishing at? i stopped using the gum trag and actually lick the edges before burnishing and they turn out almost like glass.

I did use a beveler on the corners. I just have a small plastic slicker that I use to burnish by hand. So maybe I'm not burnishing it fast enough?

I think prc meant edge the sides on top and bottom. I just use saddle soap and an old piece of jeans material. Or you can use water and like prc said lick it, or use a product like Quik Slik. What causes the burnish is the heat that builds up as you rub it fast. Cheryl
