What a beautiful piece of work. It is one of those things where when you first see it "oh, a chess board" Then it sinks in the amount of work and after looking seeing the great detail in it. What a fine piece of leatherwork that is. I love it!

I'd like to know a little about how it was made; there are some things that can't be discerned by viewing the photo.

For instance, was the playing surface itself tooled at all or only colored?

I promised a young man I know, who is a school chess club member, that I'd make a chessboard for him and I'm looking for ideas.
