I came across a Consew 289rb-1 locally and I’m not really finding much about these machines anywhere. I sew mostly tack so 10oz+ Vegtan, bridle, and harness, and Ive currently got a Cowboy Outlaw and a Sailrite but I really need to upgrade. Will this handle what I need and is $1k a good deal? I’m wanting to make myself a new pair of chaps. I’ve been trying (with no luck) to find a slim batwing that fits almost like a shotgun. I found these that Shooting Star Saddlery makes as an example.Does anybody have a pattern or know where I can find one? thanks in advance!

You’re not gonna be happy with an old world harness belt because of how many oils are stuffed into that leather during tanning. I’d go with a regular harness or a heavy oz bridal leather.

For my first year of leatherwork all I did was hand stitching. I came very familiar with what thread does to skin over time lol. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Morning Everyone, I’m new here, been reading for a while but this is my first post. I’ve been doing leatherwork for about 4 years now, mostly tack. My goal has always been to make saddles. I am about to start on my first one but my current sewing machine only handles up to a 207 thread so I’m looking for resources on hand stitching the skirt. Any help is greatly appreciated!
