  1. When burnishing the edges of a belt with carnauba cream, is it one and done or how many times should I do it?
  2. I got this set and I can only get them to bite on the edges. On the back of a belt strap, they will barely get a little leather dust off. Am I doing something wrong or did I just get a total POS tool set? Is there a way to adjust them to work better?
  3. @Dwight Harbor Freight = disposable tools
  4. Would buffing rouge on a felt wheel work well or make a mess?
  5. Which would be better for evening up the edges of something like a wallet? And what is the most economical edge treatment for a wallet?
  6. Only 12 different answers? What are they? Lazy?
  7. This is my current and most ambitious project. I know the stitch line is not straight. I would welcome comments and suggestions. One question, is there a preference for stitching the front or back needle first when saddle stitching?
  8. I'm just curious, how many here have used or currently use Dritz snaps?

    Snap Kits

I'm sure most crafters have used Dritz snaps at some point. I used to, but I've found better alternatives from the YiChuanXin storefront on Amazon. The setting tools from Dritz and YiChuangin are shown in the photos below with Dritz on the left. The YiChuanXin anvil is much heftier, 14g vs 4g, and the larger punch has a knurled grip and is big enough to use without risking your fingers in the process
  10. I know it is a leather crafting axiom that no leather scraps are useless, but has anyone figured out how to use those little plugs of leather from a hole punch?
  11. I'm afraid that craft fairs and whatnot are beyond my current means. When I say that I'm working on a shoestring budget, I mean this...not this... I'm on a strictly "make-to-order" basis. If I have a firm order, I can justify ordering materials (Thank you Amazon free 2 day delivery) on the budget. So far I've obtained 2 paying orders, but all the profit has gone to tools to make better belts.
  12. I got tired of all the trash belts for sale, so I decided to make my own. I used 9-10 oz bullhide, a nice buckle and matching metal belt loop, and Chicago Screws. I've sold 2 for $50 and $60. I'm interested in opinions and advice on Etsy. I've seen a lot of cheap belts on there that look like someone bought one of those cheap pre-made belt blanks, added a buckle and put it up for sale. Is it possible to sell a well made item for a decent price?
  13. I did a few leatherworking projects when I was a kid, moccasin kits, wallet kits, etc. If you can really call sewing together pre cut parts leather crafting. Now I'm retired and looking to this as a side hustle. Here is a belt I made.
