I think that the slots shown in your photo may have an extra column. More generally: each diagonal needs to have an even number of slots. Strip starts from below surface and finishes below surface. If not a diagonal weave each row or column needs to have an even number of slots. I am learning how to do this for purses where I am adding the weave to a panel.
