Just received a double shoulder in 6-7 oz. from Waterhouse. It was 14.25 sq ft. Their special price of $2.95 sq ft. can't be beat for this quality of leather IMHO.

Here are pics of my latest projects. Comments please, good or bad! I can take it. I'm almost grown. (turned 70 in June) First is a sporran made of elk skin over cowhide, with horse hair tassels in sterling holders. Next is a kilt belt, 3" wide, elk skin over cowhide with clan badge. Next is a cobra skin hatband Then a holster for my Stoeger Cougar 8040 (same as Beretta except made in turkey) It is lined with deerskin. Belt loop is made for a 2 3/4" wide Ranger style gun belt which is in the works.

Hi Guys and Gals Been lurking for a while and decided to come out of the closet. I started leather work over 50 years ago when I was in junior high and played with it off and on for 15 years or so, then family came along and no time for anything else. So I haven't done any leatherwork in about 40 years. About a month ago I was diagnosed with lung cancer and am currently in chemotherapy. The chemo takes all your energy and stamina, so sitting at my workbench and doing a little leatherwork is about all I can do. These 2 projects are my first attempt for a comeback. Comments please. The first is a belt pouch for my Kel-Tec PF9. It has a belt loop, hanging loops and a rings for connecting a shoulder strap. It has a magnetic catch for the flap. The back was dyed with Vinegaroon (great stuff) The front with my own concoction of coffee and a few drops of Fiebings black in Fiebings Neatsfoot Oil Compound. The flap is cowhide covered with Elk skin. Lining is Elk skin. The second is a holster for my Firestorm 1911 Govt. Model. It is from 6-7 oz leather. It is a modified pattern from Al Stohlman's "How to Make Holsters". I added the skirt and the loop. The insert in the loop is python skin. The lining is deer skin. It is treated with beeswax,carnauba wax,and orange oil mix applied, then heated with heat gun and buffed. Next projects Holsters for Beretta Cougar, S&W model 59, and A Tokarev TTC. Anyone have patterns for any of these?

Keep reading posts about the length of time it takes to make vinegaroon, and I'm wondering what I did wrong. Mine was ready in one day. I am attaching pic of a holster I retrieved from "the box" and treated on the second day. This piece was only soaked for about a minute in the solution, then rinsed with baking soda and oiled with neatsfoot compound. To make my batch, I took 0000 steel wool, soaked it in brake cleaner and burned until the flames went out, rinsed it in water and rung out the excess. Put it in a gallon milk jug and added a 1/2 gallon of Wal-Mart white vinegar and set in the sun. Every once in a while I would shake it a little bit. It has now aged for a week and the second picture is of a project I'm working on that was treated in the same way.
