About Me

Like many on the Forums, I first learned leatherwork as a boy in Scouts. and have returned to it as an adult.

Although I have sold a few small projects, I mostly make things for friends and family. My son got excited about leatherwork when he made and sold a bag to a magician he knows. I made a Notebook for my son's Eagle Scout Notebook. I make flowers from 1oz leather.

I am a member of the Prairie States Leather Guild - as fine a bunch of leatherwork enthusiasts as you could hope to meet. We meet in Downers Grove, IL on the second Sunday of the month (except when we move it to the third Sunday to avoid Easter or Mothers Day).

I sometimes get the opportunity to teach leatherwork in Scouts. An Eagle Scout myself, I am former Scoutmaster of Troop 270 in Mount Prospect, IL, and was a chaplain at the 2010 National Boy Scout Jamboree. My father (a Scouter of 40+ years) also did some leatherworking (I have a bow quiver he tooled).

I'm afraid I don't have much experience to offer in the forums, and I don't have work to brag about. But I do enjoy the friendliness and "we're all in this together" encouraging spirit of this community.

May your knives be always sharp, their lines be always true,

your stiches straight and tight, success in all you do.

May your mallet never slip, the impressions clear and deep,

each piece better than the last, while just rewards you reap.
