Antique Bradbury Treadle Machine
Uncle Dannie replied to Cobra Tom's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
I got the Chinese one, sells for about $45, shipped. Problem is, you have to buy a minimum of 10 machines. I bought mine from a reseller for $130. It works, but not very elegantly. -
I have a smooth gunbelt that I wish to do some carving on to match a holster. Can this be done? I don't want to experiment on it and ruin it finding out I can't carve on a finished piece.

He has a website that you can order the book from - see http://alain.eon.free.fr/ It has both French and English versions. He is a self-publisher, so you order it from him only. He also puts a couple up on eBay every once in a while. Just search under Alain Eon.

Thanks for the quick replies. I scoured the forums but only found bits and pieces of info on cleaning saddles. This is a rideable saddle, but has been sitting in a barn for a couple of years. I'm with you, Newfman, a 'sticky' on a How To article would be nice. Thjs is the first time I heard about using Murpheys Oil Soap, I thought everyone used Yellow saddle soap (paste). To CWR, this is the first time I heard not to use Resolene (which I was having a hard time finding locally).I do have a lot of pure Neatsfoot Oil. Again, thanks for the replies. I'll be starting this project in the next couple of days.

I want to piggy-back with freedom13. I have some old hides and would like to know the answer also. If I hadn't found this forum, I might have thrown away perfectly good, but old, hides.

I have an older saddle that is grimy and dirty, and in desperate need of a deep cleaning. It has been left out in a barn, unprotected. While reading various forums and topics about saddle restorations, I finally need help in purchasing specific items. So far, I have read that I need the following: Fiebrings Yellow Paste (what is this, the yellow saddle soap?) A Deglazer (ethyl acetate) Fiebings Leather New Bick 1 Resolene Saddle Oil (Fiebrings Pure Neatsfoot Oil) Tan Kote or Bag Kote Montana Pitchblend Lexol Leather Cleaner Now, my concerns are as follows: Do I need all these items? Which ones do I really need? And if I need all these things, in which sequence do I apply them?

What Do You Make Of That?
Uncle Dannie replied to The Farmers Daughter's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
I have seen bicycle seats split like that, so each half of your rear-end is held. Maybe the cantor of the horse was too much for the poor rider, so a split seat would make for a comfy ride. It is probably going to be one of those mysteries of life, that no one will ever have the answer for. -
I bought a used saddle from a rancher in Montana. The saddle is in fair shape but will require some repair and restoration. It has a oval concho that bears the saddlemaker's logo. I'm not sure if it is JM Saddlery or MJ Saddlery. I did a Google search, and a ton of companies are names JM or MJ, Any help would be appreciated. I have attached two photos. I paid $100 for the saddle, so I think I can invest a couple of dollars in it to fix it up.
