All i make are holsters and i use super shene to finish my stuff. It doesn't let the dye rub off the edges of the holsters. Hope this helps.

That is a good suggestion. The way i do it is just stick it on a normal oven on about 150 for an hour or til completely dry. It will be perfect for you. You might want to experiment with your oven first to see how well it will work at a lower temp. because all ovens are different. If you get oven to hot it will cause little lines in the holster.

Alright i have looked and looked trying to find info on how to sharpen a diamond shaped awl. I can't seem to find anything on here at all. If someone can help me with this problem. The tools that i have to sharpen it are a two sided wet rock, a 3000 grit norton stone, some ceramic dowels for polishing, and a homemade strop for polishing. Thanks for the help. Thomas

I know this subject has been touched on many times before, but i am hoping people have found new sources that i haven't heard yet. Please help me out guys. I have ordered last ones from knife kits and it works good i just need a bigger gap between the clip at it's curve. I also wonder if there is somewhere to get good kydex clips that ain't 8.50 a piece.

Thanks guys. I new i should have order that awl and blades from tandy's when i had that 40 percent off coupon. What size do yal recommend for the blade?? Do they come in different thicknesses or does the length of blade matter?? I am sorry for my ignorance with this subject i am fairly new to this and need all the help i can get. Thanks again Thomas

This question will kinda go along with which thread to use. I am trying to figure out another way to make holes for hand sewing. The method i have been using is a small drill press. I go through and groove where i am going to stitch then use overstitch wheel to see where i need to drill holes. The reason i started using the drill press is that i use 5 min. epoxy to glue leather before dyeing. And drilling is easiest way to get through the epoxy(that i have found). Also if there is another way to glue leather together with super strong bond like epoxy please let me know. Thanks Thomas

I am far from an expert but i would think neats foot oil would work great. It repels water own it's own. Then use something to seal further i general just use super shene and water will bead up and run off my products win finished. Thomas

I have been making some holsters and selling them in my spare time. The thread i have been using is artificial sinew and the thick black string used to repair shoes. I would like to find something thinner and just as strong if not stronger that is durable and weather resistant. I looked for some thick nylon and polyester at hobby shops but can't find anything in black and brown. I am not looking for thin thread like regular sewing thread but something a bit thicker. Sorry if this is confusing i think i confused myself typing it. Thanks Thomas

Denatured alcohol or dye thinner. Is what i have used and works fine. I believe denatured alcohol is what most people use though(also cheaper).

What kind of sprayer are you and others using?? Also i need to find somewhere that has snaps that can go through three layers of leather. Using chicago screws makes them go lower on holster so guns ride higher.

I looked and didn't see anything, even though i am sure that there is other things. I am having a problem dyeing holsters. I am looking for some pointers from people that are more experienced on the subject. The way that i do it is using the little cotton daubers that come with the dye. I am having a problem getting a nice even dye on them. I can post pictures to let yal see if yal like. I just would like to find a better method to dye them. After i dye looks like swirls or wood grain almost because, i guess, not evenly applied. I decided to go ahead and show two i have recently done. Revolver for a ruger lcr and the auto is for a cz 75. The holster for the lcr took a lot of coats to look even. I would also like some suggestions on where to get snaps that are long enough to go through 3 layers of 7 to 8 oz. leather so i don't have to use chicago screws.
