  1. Hey everyone! I've been having such a great time here. I made a couple belts and have had requests already to make some for family and friends. Currently in the process of making some vinegaroon to make some black ones. Now i'm on a mission to make sandals. I have a question for all you experienced sandal makers. How do you go about attaching the straps on the sandal without showing rivets/nails etc on the outside? I'm attempting to make a Flip-Flop thong style sandal. I've looked and looked but with no luck. The only way I can think if rivets and nails are required is somehow lining over the whole top sole to hide them. im stumped hehe
  2. Not sure of the dimensions. But if you can find a buckle like this that would be amazing

    Belt Buckles?

Hello all! I've been looking at all the resources mentioned here on leatherworker.net for stores that sell belt buckles, but still cant find the exact buckle I want. I hit it pretty close today, but it was brass in color. I am looking for nickel. Here is a link of the belt buckle: http://www.conchos.com/17sobrbebu1w.html but in nickel. Anyone know other quality sources where I can purchase a buckle that has a similar shape? Thanks in advance!
  6. Wow. I've been searching for the same belt buckle as well. If you do find a source please do inform us
  7. Quick question. Have you tried sizing these for yourself or for an adult size? I tried blowing these up in photoshop, scaling the pattern proportionally to fit my shoe size. I cut out the pattern on paper and put it together quickly to get a rough idea of what it may look like, and the proportions seem to be a little big, but it is after all paper so it doesnt mold together as sleekly as leather would. Do you have any tips or suggestions for sizing these up to adult sizes? I have been looking for a mocassin/shoe pattern to try out and these just look amazing! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  8. Wow. Thank you so much for the pattern. Those are really awesome shoes.
  9. As the topic says, I am looking if there are any Leather Guilds or Leatherworking mentors down here in South Florida. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  10. Thank you guys for the help. I've decided to try out the veg-tanned double shoulder from siegel for economical reasons. Being a beginner I know I will make mistakes. I need to practice... so until I get fairly decent, the english bridle and Culattas will have to wait. I am going to try the 8/9 oz for the belts. Hopefully the quality of the leather will be nice enough to be wearable Now I have to determine the size since you can order in 10 sq. ft. portions. Do you guys believe that 10 sq. feet is enough? How many belts can I expect on average to get out of this sized skin? Once again, thank you for the help!
  11. Thank you so much for your help! I haven't had much luck with the search function, but have seen so many cool things while trying to use it! hehe. I've decided to try and make my own belt. I was thinking of using a blank, but would love to cut the leather myself etc. Which leather do you suggest is best for belts? I was looking up the tandy site and saw these double bend calfskins. They do seem quite pricy though. Do you have a personal recommendation on where you buy your leather? Are the pre cut belt straps they offer just as good a quality as buying the skin and cutting it myself? Once again, thank you for all of the help. I always feel so reserved asking, but so many things come into learning this and I always like to do things the correct way the first time around hehe.
  12. Hello everyone. I am almost done with all the projects in my tandy kit, and looking to learn more. I would love to start cutting my own leather, punching my own holes, etc; however, I do not know where to begin! I eventually want to be able to make cases, wallets, cuffs, belts, etc. I've looked at the "art of making cases" etc at the Tandy store but they seem advanced for my level. Can anyone suggest a great beginner book that contains projects with clear directions etc? I saw in the forum that someone suggested The Leatherworking Handbook: A Practical Illustrated Sourcebook of Techniques and Projects by Valerie Michael. I would like to build a good foundation for leatherworking. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  13. thank you for the help! I picked up a bottle of the Leather Balm w/ Atom Wax. Haven't used it yet but will give it a go tomorrow.
  14. Hello everyone! I am quite new to leatherworking. I just finished my second project out of my Tandy Beginner Kit Loving it! I have a question. I have looked through the boards and searched, but haven't found an answer. The kit comes with Veg Tanned leather. I love the look and feel of it as is, but I would like to protect it as well. What finish would be best, without altering the color and feel of the leather? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
