  1. I am a complete novice at leatherwork. I have been in the custom knife business for a long time and have always farmed out my sheath work. They do fantastic work, but I would like to start doing some special projects with my own hand. No power machines at this point, it will be all hand stitching. Reading and watching here to learn the things I need to know.

I am very familiar with metal working but leather is a brand new direction for me. Keep up all the great pictures and information, this is a really good place to learn from.

Hopefully my website will be showing some of my leatherwork soon.

  2. My father got me started at the age of 8, he was a very good craftsman and taught me a lot of tricks. I continued until after High School and then quit , just didnt have the time. My father passed away in 99 and left me all of his tools, I kept all of the tools and in 2007 I pulled out all of the tools to build a set of saddle bags for my bike. I had to relearn a lot of things but am back up to speed now and getting better everyday.

  3. Try Springfield leather.

Does anyone have a source for horsehide leather? Sheridan leather has some, but it is thinner than ideal in some spots and it bleeds. Most of their hide would be great for seats (as its waterproof), but Im looking for a "garment leather" . Im looking for a source for horsehide fronts in black. Thanks! Kate C
