What should be the first few things done when learning this craft? What tools are a necessity? Where do you find quality tools? What tools should I not worry about? What kind of work area is best suited for this, and can I set something up in my house?

I have a workshop in my basement. I made my table out of 2x4s and 2x6s and carriage bolts. Since I live in Indiana I topped my table with a 3 inch slab of limestone. I have quite a few Barry King tools, but still use several tandy tools that I use for background stuff. There are many great lessons here at this website and online. This is a great place to learn.
