HI,
I am finally upgrading from a regular sewing machine to a leather sewing machine. Reason being is I want to make horse tack (Halters, bridles, heavy padded tack, girths... etc. NO SADDLES). I was researching the market, and got completely overwhelmed with the amount of machines available. Here is what i need: The machine has to sew through heavyweight leather, 2-3 layers of 8-9 oz leather or so. Also it has to have a high foot lift, at 1/2 inch or higher for padded tack. The padding on the tack is, foam covered in sticky soft leather, so i guess i need a triple feed system? or a jump foot will do it?
Now all of that sounds very expensive:) Price wise, I'm looking for a happy medium. I saw a Techsew GA5-1R for $1,500. It has a high lift, goes through heavy leather, but as i understand its not a leather sewing machine, and also im not sure about its feeding system. On the other hand i was looking at Artisan Toro machines that can range up to $4000. I understand that it is better to buy 1 good machine and never worry about it again, but isn't there anything good in $2000 price range or lower? What are your recommendations? I also understand that there is no miracle machine, that does everything and costs nothing.
So I'm looking for the next best thing
P.S. also forgot to mention about Ferdco Pro 10/10 machine. Has anyone had experience with it? What is your opinion on this machine?
