I'm thinking the top and bottom are somewhat out-of-time. The feed timing eccentric is glued to the shaft--pulled the set screw and got some Kroil into the hole. I'll give it another try next week. No big rush; I'm waiting on a belt and a thread tension assy.

Before and after. There were big piles of filth everywhere. DP-17 needles look like they’ll probably work. Very subtle differences between it and the 16x99 it’s supposed to take.

This is a Singer 44-79. I haven’t seen a shuttle similar to this. The machine here is in the position where the needle has lifted around 3mm so I assume the end of the shuttle that is at top dead center is what I’d time this off? To the right is the housing business that faces the shuttle.
