making/ molding a holster
carpfisher replied to figthnbullrider's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Rough side out!? Not that is something I never would have thought of. I'll have to try that. Base on Bill's instructions, i have ben working way too wet, and removing the gun way too soon. Looks like I'm making a holster thgis week end. More un-scheduled practive (nice quote!) -

Yeah, it honks. As soon as you squeeze the trigger! Hilly. The holster has been sold to its requester so I can't get you a picture of the back but.. I basically put a loop with a "D" ring. The shoulder strap has a plastic squeeze buckle to allow for a easy attachment/detachment. That makes it alot easier to put on. Additionally that provides the length adjustment. I put a slider on the end to keep tha tag end from flopping around. -

Trevor, Yeah, I know what I did! But at least I did it consistiently. Your example looks great. I think I'll follow your example and finish it out similiar to yours. Great comment on the bent over critic! Thanks for the responses. I'll post a pic when I get it done. Greg

The pictures were very helpful. I am now on the prowl for a nice chunk of hardwood, ie. maple, oak, hickory (Broken baseball bat! ). After lathing the grooves, I am thinking that boring the end, insert a metal arbor and then epoxying it in place. That will solve the wood in a chuck problem. Great Thread! Duh! just re-looked at the pic.'s and noted that one has a metal base.

I put the plastic Tandy Burnishing tool ona mandrel and chuck it into my Shopmith (read lathe) and run it to 1800 RPM.'s I got that figure form the Bianchi Holster making videos. Dye the edge as appropriate, let it dry. Rub the edge with beeswax and work it into the burnisher. It works very well. Makes a nice professional edge and it is fast. I was wearing my arms/hands out rubbing in Gum Trag. before. This system works much better.

In one of the Basket weave threads somebody suggested saving and reviewing the Mosby Tutorial before starting the project. GOOD IDEA! I wasn't paying attention on the attached photo and didn't line up the stamp correctly. The good news, (Iguess ) is that I was consistent across the first line so I am thinking it is salvagable. I just can't seem to come up with something that looks good. I have been working on some scrap pieces so you won't see the efforts in the thread. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
