Nice rig! -
The knife Im trying to make a sheath for is a Gerber fixed blade "freeman". It has a four inch blade, and what I would call a pretty narrow handle. Upon further inspection, I dont think a pouch type sheath would work the best. (if im wrong and you have seen a good example please share.) My wife told me that she has a heavy duty snap pliers and hardware to install the snap, so I think I might make more of a traditional hunting knife sheath. Which type do you guys think is easier to make? Again, you guys are all very helpfull.

Thanks everyone. After reading the messages, and Camano's tips, I learned something. Two months ago I would have had no idea what Camano was trying to say, but as I read the message I could visualize what was being explained. So I guess I'm learning something? I also learned that I must slow down, the ole measure twice cut once kinda deal. Thanks for the help!

Here's where I went wrong. I cut my pattern way to small, My welt was uneven, my stitch grove line was way off on the back of the sheath, when i drilled my stitch holes I didnt get them straight causing my uneven welt to "pop" out. There were some points where the welt wasnt covering the stitches, and when I inserted my knife it cut them rightaway..... Now, as soon as I started this, I knew it wasnt going to be a work of art, but I thought it would still be functionable. What I was trying to do was make a "one piece" sheath with one stitch line for a four inch blade.....I just put everything away and will do some more reading on here before i start again. If anybody has any patterns that they would like to share, I'd be very gratefull. My ultimate goal was to give holsters a try, after my sheath disaster, im not sure if I'll ever be able to. Thanks for listening everyone, Hotwing.

Couple Of Knife Sheaths
hotwing replied to Hoyt64's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks great. Would you be able to post a picture of the belt loop or the back of the sheath from the first two sheaths? Thats what I was trying to work out today, how do I secure the knife inside the sheath without any snaps. Thanks for the help, and inspiration! -

Gun Fits Loose In Holster
hotwing replied to hotwing's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry, I should have tried to explain the gun to holster fit. Worn with a belt, the holster is just slightly loose, by that I mean the gun fits in the holster and fits well, Its just that on the draw and holstering the gun there is no frfriction of any kind. Other leather holsters I have have just enough friction so that it takes some effort to remove the gun from the holster. Example: if the holstered gun is tilted at a 45 degree angle the gun would slide out of the holster. A Milt Sparks summer special I have holds the gun just enough that you could hold it almost up side down and the gun would not fall out. The holster is used, but shows very little "wear". No signs of cracking or streaching. I like the idea of trying to glue something to the interior of the holster. Thanks again guys. -
I bought a used Bianchi #4/4l at a gun show yesterday. My plan was to try and make a "copy" of it for my first build. The holster is kind of an avenger style for a 5" 1911. When I got it home my pistol fit loose in the holster. Should I try and "wet" it to shrink it to fit my gun better? If so, how should I go about doing it? I'm not worried about wrecking it, because as it is I cant use it or resell it. Anybody got any ideas?
