I am very new to leatherworking. HAven't actually cut or sewn leather to make things, have just used kits from Tandy. I really enjoy it, and was thinking of making a picture frame for a friend. My idea was to have the frame be on top of wood (I do not have access to power tools- should I buy a flat cheap wood frame and glue the leather on?) stamp the leather with a basketweave, and on the bottom center, put his family's brand, since my idea was to have a print made of a picture of him and his dad on their hunting trip to put in the frame.
If anyone could provide me some step by step instructions on how to do this and make it look good, that would be great! Also, with doing basketweave, if anyone has examples of how they have done that stamp on a picture frame, I was thinking with a camouflage border, that would be great too- I'm a more visual learner than anything!
Big question- what kind of leather do I need to order to do this?
