  1. i used the Fiebings alcohol based Tan dye and its coming out more brown than the medium brown did... haha Im going to give the chocolate dye a try and some of those other techniques everyone has thrown out there. i just need to buy some more scrap to mess around on.
  2. When i said id give these ideas a try, i was talking about having an adult beverage and this. GREATEST IDEAS YET!
  3. Thank you very much! Im going to give those a try! My work is getting better, im just struggling to get the colors i want.
  4. I have tried Eco-flo Antique gels and now Fiebings Alcohol based dye and nothing is coming out right. I like the way the Fiebings works but the "medium brown" came out Brown/Redish... more along the lines of Rosewood.... Whats the key? They are all being applied to veg tanned leather. Do i need to wet the leather first???? Mix a little water with the dye? And how long should i wait between coats? Until its dry? Or hours? Here is the pre dyed picture and two dyed pictures of the same belt. PLEASE HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS! Red
  5. Thanks! I thought that it looked kinda rough as well. Im starting a knife sheath and ive already started smoothing the beveling out on it! It is a bumper seat for my buddies barber shop, for kids. It goes across his barber chair arms. Red
  6. Here it is! This was my first attempt at leather working! I learned a lot! Cant wait to improve on the next piece! Any comments/words of wisdom/criticism are definitely welcome! Red
  7. does anyone have a picture of one of these small bevelers? and i do like the idea of filing a small beveler down to make is even smaller! Thanks guys!
  8. People! I am working on a project right now and i am struggling to bevel the tight corners of the peice. The entire outside of the peice is being smooth beveled with a b60 and a b201 tool. But i cant figure out how to get deep into corners without beveling edges that i dont want beveled. How do you guys do it? Is there another tool i should purchase? Red
  9. Thanks guys! I have a lot to learn and a lot to do! Cant wait to post some more stuff
  10. Everything looks pretty awesome! i love that biker sleeve! Thats a killer idea and great work on it as well!
  11. This is my first attempt at anything, and only my second post. Ive only had my tools for two weeks now, and havent had much practice.... but i went for it. I figure i have the tools, the only way to learn/practice is to just try to make something. This is going to be for my buddy's booster seats for his barber shop chairs. The last guy who re-upholstered them put cheap vinyl on and they are junk now. So here it is, after all the cuts. Tooling will be after i heal from my elbow surgery. I know there are a few mistakes, i realized how much stropping helps about halfway through the cuts. TAKE A LOOK!
  12. Terry thanks a lot! I think im going to give the sharpening blocks a go, if they dont work, then ill just purchase a new blade. Thanks for your input though! Anyone else have any tips from lessons learned? Red
  13. Hey guys, first post. Been debating on leatherwork for 2 years, finally bought the supplies and started up. Anyway, I have a swivel knife blade which seems to have been damaged. Almost like the person before me used it as a chisel and sort of rolled the tip. The question is, how do i sharpen the blade without damaging it? I have knife sharpening blocks for pocket knives, should i use one of those? Or is there a method of stropping with compounds? Also, when stropping while making initial cuts into the leather, can you use a piece of leather for the compound? Or do you have to use cardboard? Thanks guys! Cant wait to ask, learn, answer and read! Cam (Red)
