depending on the level of layout and design you create making that pattern or creating a workflow to manufacture can be time consuming. There are also many aspects of design that don't carry through to a maker. What you can draw on paper might require toolsets that bring an even higher dollar. do you plan to build any bags yourself or just want to design? I would urge you to also build. Your design eye will develop much faster. You don't have to invest in industrial machines for fine leathers, you can work with cheap knits and build your designs and have a good idea what you would want to keep in your designs.
