  1. Thanks Gregg, Steve and Wiz. Gregg was exactly right. I did try a shorter needle and was able to move the needle up far enough to catch the bobbin thread. I am pretty new at using this and learning by trial and error mostly. I am so happy I found this site and you wonderful people. You are a great help to me!! I appreciate it.
  2. I have a Singer 31-15. I am pretty new at using this machine. It is not picking up the bobbing thread. Not sure what is wrong. Timing? If so how do I time it. I would appreciate any help i can get. Thanks.

I was just reading the book for my Mom's machine. Perhaps your bobbin tension needs to be readjusted for the leather?

Needle may be bent, even slightly can affect it. Also if you hold tension on the top thread sometimes it will act that way too. Happened to me.

I know from my home machine... that if the bobbin is put in with the thread unspooling in the wrong direction... it will not pick up the bobbin thread. Check that first, then replace the needle even if it looks ok. And make sure you've properly threaded the machine with the thread in all of the tension features. Good luck
