  2. Than do it without talking! What is sheridan? Karol
  3. When plaiting in cowhide I use to make core - with steel spike and leather core, than 4 plait belly, bolster and top plait. Diameter of a whip is around 22-23 mm. If I will use a shot bag it will be little bit thicker Mr. Joe - do you stretch cow hide beacuse you check if it broke? Or you have such stretchy leather? From my experience roo hide is much more stretchy then cow - that is why I'm asking.
  4. Hi! It depends on a hide you have. Type of tanning that I use don't need to be stretched - it's simply not so stretchy as roo. Always grease before stretch, speccialy cowhide and if you have to stretch you need to be more gentle . For example cowhide I use don't need to be stretched, paired or anything. I just cut it, skive it and it's ready to plait . Personally I like plaiting in cow. Main drawback (sorry if the word is wrong) of this hide is that it's almost impossible to plait using thin strands. But untill I have to plait in more than 12 strands I like this leather . Karol
  5. Hi! I'm using both kangaroo and cowhide to make whips. And you can use 1.8 mm cowhide (4-5 oz). Such leather will be good anough to make 8 or 12 plait whips. 16 strand plait will have to be loose, not tight. I would give you the name of the tanning type that I use, but I don't know the english names for it . Anyway this leather is for boot making. It's durable and strong . In Tandy I think it's in the upholstery section. I'm sending on of my old whip I made, in black cowhide 12 plait. Karol
  6. What font do You mean? At the beggining I want someone to make me a calligraphy of some arabic font, but no one wanted to do this for me. So I choose this, as it was good for simply book . Karol
  7. Hello! If it is like You say, will it not destroy the leather? After all glycerin is absorbing water, and alchochol is mixing with water and evaporating... so after everything we have leather which is dry and soak with glycerin - which without water will dry hide even more. And if it is a mixture for stretching it's not good for renovation the leather. Hope my english was good anough to understand Gunter: when I'm trying to restore some old skins, the most important thing is to soak it with water, than apply some fat/oil to keep it inside . You can also use such thing as a mix of glycerin or lanoline with water (both you should buy in a pharmacy). As I never make anything with snake skin, I would try to restore only a small part of it at the beggining. Edit: or you can use leather conditioner that you can buy in leather/equerstian shop . Usually this is compound of water, wax, lanoline, glycerine and some oils. Still check how the snake is react on it Hope it helped, Karol

  11. Hello! This is my first leather cover I made. As book I use handbook for RPG game Call of Cthulhu - old cover was changed for a new one. For everyone who read arabic - I have corrected this little mistake you see. Tools I use was only basic stamping kit from Tandy Leather (without swiwel knife), two needles, knive, ruller and paracord core as a string . Leather I use was goat skin. This book has to be old, and dirty, so this is why stain isn't even. Hope you like it, if don't tell my why Karol
