I'd like to have a few shell cordovan ovals split to an even thickness. 2-3 shell ovals. Widest would be ~17" across and thickness from the tannery is approx 2oz- 4/5oz Hoping someone with a band knife splitter can help me split them to a uniform 1.5-2oz throughout. These shell are expensive so looking for a pro setup to help as these prob won't fare well with a diy type machine. I'd ship to you, pay return postage and pay a fair fee for the service. Pardon but what's rough about it besides the one tooth that I called out? It's straight, every other tooth is sharp and the iron is ready to be used as is. Have you seen /used modern dixon tools? There's a reason they're being sold for 1/3 cost of Blanchard irons. I wish people had the courtesy of keeping these comments to pm rather than muddy others perceptions

Hey all, I'm clearing out the remainder of all my gator pieces and have organized them into 2 lots. A multitude of colors and sizes but you get some good cutting with both, These would be good for inlays, straps, watch bands, etc, and you will prob have enough to make a wallet backing or two but don't expect enough for a wallet inside/out. There will be scratches/imperfections throughout so good for someone who wants to try gator for the first time but don't want to cut into a whole $3-$400 skin. Quality ranges from grade I - VI in terms of these specific pieces. Not willing to sell specific pieces, all or nothing. Take both lots for $100 + Shipping Add $10 for CONUS shipping. I bought this in April and have used it a handful of times. I'm mostly using a higher SPI now so have bought a new set. As you can see, it's in great shape. The last tooth could be filed down but for the most part, it's still sharp and capable. Price is $68 shipped CONUS. At this point, US buyers only please. Thanks for looking!

While I do enjoy my custom made hand tools and gizmos, I find very little differentiation in mallets used for pricking irons & rivets. (I don't do any tooling, etc) Thus, I hate to be that-guy but this has served me very well. http://www.harborfreight.com/soft-face-mallet-69048.html Cheaper than an hour of parking downstairs.

IMO the difference is mostly in coloring. Not as deep as horween. There is also a section with some wrinkling but overall the oval is large enough so the yield is still par with what you would get in a shell of this size from horween.

Hey guys, I've been working with Shell for awhile now and decided to give Joseph Clayton’s rendition a try. Bought a bunch of colors to test and decided not to use this color so up for sale it goes. Happens to be the largest of the bunch at ~18 x 25. As you know, if this were horween in this size, you'd pay more than 2x if you can get your hands on it....big if. Color is Whiskey/Butterscotch, tanned in the UK. A bit different from Horween but still a very premium leather. Some surface wrinkling but due to the large size, you still have great yield. Thanks FLW, your site has been educational thus far. However, F.A.C. is quite nebulous, really. While it sounds like you have lots of 1st hand exp, I keep reading different testimonials from others. Per Sajou's site: (I've highlighted areas of interest) So what I'm concluding based on the above is: Lin Retors and Lin Retors Extra seem to be one in the same (since there's only ONE type that comes in capsules). In fact, I've not found any sign of differentiation between Retors & Retors Extra other than on fineleatherworking The 50M capsules that are readily avail are (per above) 3 strands which have been retwisted. I believe some have stated it's single strand The capsules are marketed for leatherwork but no one can tell me what gauge the thread is. I just bought some of the capsules and will report back but again, all the info out there is pretty enigmatic to decipher If I've made a blatant mistake, please feel free to correct as I'm just a guy trying to buy some damn thread without spending an arm and leg Thanks all

Really? Both are marketed as waxed and I don't think the cheap one is any smaller of a spool. Fineleatherworking.com has a writeup about F.A.C's different variations but I can't tell if the $10 capsules are indeed "Lin Retors" Can anyone with with first hand experience give me a hand? seanafk? Can someone pls educate me on the differences between the fil au chinois that comes in spool, hard to get in the US and retails for ~$30 vs the $10 "capsules" readily available on eBay? I'm just looking for a lightly waxed linen thread in a thin profile and the stuff avail stateside looks like t fits the bill Thanks!
