  1. Hi, the leather is JE Sedgwicks Bridle Butt. Traditional veg tan, expensive, but the best leather I have worked with in 30+ years. thanks.
  2. Thankyou, the sunlight really makes the colour sing. 30+ hours of work
  3. From the album: recent work no. 2

Made with sedgwicks bridle butt, 1 1/2 butts, took over 100 hours to make, a large and physically demanding piece, entirely hand stitched.
  4. From the album: recent work no. 2

The underarm zipped folio was entirely hand stitched, the filofax organiser was machine stitched

An enduring design, you can see a stock XL version in the background, in my workshop
  6. From the album: recent work no. 2

A single pocket, dark green bridle shoulder hand stitched briefcase, the client had me shorten the flap, and have more rounded flap corners.
  7. From the album: recent work no. 2

The client had seen photographs of the design samples, but wanted a contrast colour strapping.
  8. From the album: recent work no. 2

Design work, an idea still in progress. made with Sedgwicks bridle panel hide, bridle butt strapping, and part hand stitched, part machine stitched, with copper rivits, fun

A padded leather, leather lined Photograph album with 14" x 11" acetate sleeves. I used to make a lot of these for prophessional photographers, this one as a wedding album
  10. From the album: recent work no. 2

This one went off to a client in Moscow, still hoping for a photo of the case in Red Square
  11. From the album: recent work no. 2

All hand stitched, difficult to hand cut the front chapes
  12. From the album: recent work no. 2

Another shot of the same briefcase, to show what a difference the lighting makes. Entirely hand stitched.
  13. From the album: recent work no. 2

A single pocket briefcase, and a 2 pocket scalloped briefcase, both in Sedgwicks Dark Havana. Both entirely hand stitched. Love this leather, but very difficult to photograph, so as to show the depth of colour, my workshop lighting really 'flattens' the colour
  14. From the album: recent work no. 2

This one in JE Sedgwicks Dark Havana Bridle Butt, with scalloped front flap.
  15. Hi, I have been using Sedgwick's leather care recently, and am very pleased with it, both to 'revive' older' leathergoods that have dryed out, and to treat newer items. It does not seem to mark the leather, whis is a problem with some products, but as always, try out on a part of the item first, see http://www.je-sedgwick.co.uk/products/leather-preparation-care/original-leathercare/#more-244 All the best, simon baker casemakers

Hand stitched Top Framed Brief Cases. I had an order for one in chestnut bridle butt for a GP doctor to carry all her equiptment in when visiting patients. But, because I had not made one of these for a number of years, I made the green one to check my pattern. They took about 30 hours each, but I am pleased with them.

  17. Hi Ralph, truely impressive work, congrats. all the best, simon

  18. Hi KS, thanks for your comments, but I can't claim to have thought of this first. I do mainly traditional work, with a little twist but aiming for 'perfection' of construction and form, if thats not too arty. all the best, simon
  19. Hi Jimbob, thanks for that, sorry for the delay, still learning how to navigate around this site. simon

  20. Really nice lines, like the design detailing, keep at it, all the best, simon

Not to be left out, this was made for the wife of a good client in Seattle. 10" wide, all hand stitched, made with Sedgwicks conker bridle butt, a joy to work with. Has pen loops and pockets inside, and came with a detatchable shoulder strap, and a wee strap that clipped onto a D ring inside, to hold a key ring safely.
