Before Covid, there was a big sales event/show that one of the big leather companies sponsored, where used and maybe new leather machines were sold as well as leather. Sewing machines, splitters, clicker presses, etc. Does anyone remember who put this show on?

I was wanting to make some really nice leather drink coasters. Wanting to see what type of leather you all might recommend for me to use. I have been looking at some English Bridle or Harness leather but not sure what might be best! Does anyone have any experience with making these? I will stitch around the edges and will stamp my logo on them. Also, do you recommend sealing them, etc.. Thanks in advance for any advice Barry

Thank you so much for the info. I am going to want to go to a heavier machine. You are right! It will also serve me well I should think when I want to do gun holsters and radio holsters down the road! Possibly the CB4500... Thanks!

I wanted to ask for your opinions about some used sewing machines I have an opportunity to buy... I want a good machine that sews thicker thread... These machines have been well serviced in a long standing leather company. I make large totes, wallets, card holders, etc using 3-5 ounce leather. The machines are : Durkopp Adler 267-373 .Consew 146RB Consew 199RB Thank you for any input any one could give me! Barry

Old Horse Tack Leather
bartug1 replied to bartug1's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
OK... Thank you so much for your reply. I think this is beyond help then! Thanks! -
I have an opportunity to buy some old Horse Tack - leather. It is very dirty and appears to have been thrown into a big wood box and left for many years. It's very hard to tell what all is there. I can see that a bit of it appears to be dry and cracked... dried out. My question is, can this be cleaned up and repurposed or does it sound to far gone? Thanks, Barry

I am looking for an opportunity to learn the leather working trade from the ground up... Please reply if you or someone you know can offer any suggestions.
