T Screws
soaring eagle replied to soaring eagle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
thanks for pixs and other advice,,,the belt in the pix is a vintage George Lawrence belt and i don't want to put holes in it so i drug out 1 made a while back and i believe it only 7/8oz leather cause no matter how i secure to it,, the holster kept falling south!!! I sent a pix to will ghormly and he said it would need a custom belt because of the severe angle...Atempting something beyond my skill but have learned from it..maybe next year i tackle agin, gonna see if i can fashion some other kind of holster from it,,,it was just a pice of scrap i was toying with till i get some more hide!!! -

Buenos dios,,,Out of leather but had enough scrap to fashion a holster similar to the angle of the Rory Calhoun pix...Gonna post few pixs and remember this is a rough prototype held with glue and not perfect cuts...I was thinking maybe the T screws i read about at all the big time pro leather makers migjht be a way to keep it at the right angle,,,,only i have no idea what they look like or where to install....I was hoping some one post some pixs of the T screws(or other apparatus) and suggest in the holster or belt install or any better idea how to secure....Thanks... g onna

Cross Draw
soaring eagle replied to soaring eagle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
mike,,sounds like a good process,,had considered paper to play with but hadn't thought about actually putting revolver in it,sounds smart idea to me!!i am having fun for sure,,,, made a first double mexican loop and it came out good so i had another one going but would you believe when cutting the loops in the skirt the i cut the damn thing off,,just lost train of thought i guess,,like putting neat lac on instead of neat foot,,guess i will trim skirt and rivet the pouch instead.....Rory is on the western channel this afternoon featuring the very leather rig in the pix,,believe i will record and maybe be a better look at the rig,,thanks hasta luego -

Cross Draw
soaring eagle replied to soaring eagle's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
thanks for advice twin,,had to read a couple of times before i got abbreviate back flap,so it is a shortend skirt...i will fool with it till i get it,,it is a real severe angle.... Maybe you can tell what i did wrong on the cross draw a put together,,am doing a pix... i thought a had it till i belted up and the pouch flopped like a fish out of water,,so i riveted the thing to the skirt making a tight belt fit and it works ok,,just wonder where i went wrong,,thanks try again to post pix -
buenos dios,,,,i finally got a fairly good cross draw finished with 30 degree angle....My brother bless him sent me a pix of Rory Calhoun movie and asked could i make a holster like that!!!!! I have no idea how to craft one with that severe angle..have been at this for about 1 yr altogether and only made a smattering of 12 holsters...Gonna try a pix and maybe some of you great skilled ones can show me the path!!! Thanks

Accident-Neat Lac Instead Of Neat Foot
soaring eagle replied to soaring eagle's topic in All About Leather
like i said aaron,,was an accident been at it long enough to know the order and the fact that this leather is almost 7.00 a sq foot in stead of the less than 5.00 when i bought it,,would like to try use and i will use it anyway!! thanks for all in put,,this great place!!! -
on my last project i used a piece of herman oak craft grade i have had for 2 years and decided to sun it with neat foot oil first....then i didn't treat part of it... the sunned neat foot took the dye better.... So my next project decided to sun and oil the whole thing,,except i put neat lac on it by mistake(old age, eyesight, meds????) anyways i heated it up with a hair dryer and neat foot oil and it outside in sun for next 24 hrs..I am building a holster for a second hand shop but still want my best to be there.... Is it going to tool and dye ok or have i got a plain jane project?????

Looking for a template or pattern,,have found a lot of patterns and a lot of replicas(at premium price) but would like to attempt to make one for my own use....Found no pattern specifically for mr. Cleef style holster,,,will be for a ruger blackhawk 357/38 SA 3 screw,,4 5/8 barrel... i am unsure of how to get the sharp angle,,putting over belt or attach a separate hanger to back of holster..i have made only a few holsters and certainly a beginner but enjoy giving it a go...thanks for reply,,maybe i put in wrong forum as i see there is a pattern forum... I guess a good cross draw pattern whether it says van cleef style or not would suffice..Thanks for reply!! -
Great web site!!! Can anyone put me on source of a good Lee Van Cleff style holster and belt... I have fooled around with my own patterns and having trouble getting the angle for the cross draw acceptable..Appreciate any help,,thanks!!!
