  1. So which is cheaper up front and down the road shop press set up or vac press. Currently I am using a vac press from roar rocket that you hand pump all the air out. Works ok I would just like more pressure on the bg’s I mold. The other issue is the bags are pretty expensive. They have to custom make bags for me for holsters since their bags are pretty big for holsters. 4 bags are like $400 I think.

  2. Twin Oaks - The issue I have is it marks the leather horizontal with the stitch line. I called the designer and he said all pressure foot machines leave indentions in the leather that it was just the nature of the beast and I should take a bone folder or cobblers mallet to even them out which seams really odd but then it could be I'm just too new. After all this is my first stitcher….lol

  3. I really like it so far. I just can't get the foot to stop leaving an impression in the leather when I stitch up holsters. That's why I was curious if any other Cub owners were here. The manual lacks a bit so I figured it was worth a shot to get tips and tricks from real world users ;)

  4. A friend of mine has asked me to make a basic shoulder rig for him for his ccw. His gun is a xds and I have all the holster parts done and ready to go. it's the strapping I am confused on how to do. He wants basically 2 circles that go around his shoulders and cross in the back. He doesn't want a strap that goes around high stomach. I have already gotten a 3x3" rounded square for the straps to feed into that goes between the shoulder blades. I am just stuck on how to do the straps. Across the shoulders it will be 2" wide and everywhere else 1". it will be adjusted for a custom fit by snaps. Good thing is he is about my size. Does anyone by any chance have a pattern for the straps I could use?

    Thanks

    Charles

  5. I will work on making changes/updating my design when I get a chance this weekend.

What do you consider reasonable? To some people it may be $40 for others $150... without a number it is hard to tell if it is worth the effort to even look into mass production. (in this case I am only talking 20-50)

I work with a local machine shop when our shop gets too busy. I could have them quote it in quantity of 10, 20, 50, and 100. But I would have to know that people are interested and willing to pay cost + shipping before I would waste their time.

For me affordable would be 40-50 bucks. I am still getting things going and living on disability

  6. JLSLeather That is exactly what I am looking for! That drawing is spot on. I totally agree about the steel shank.

I am with Oldnslow if someone should take on this and the price is affordable I would be all over this. I think it would be a great side business for someone that has access to the equipment and has the know how to accomplish this.

  7. I like the idea too. But it's tough to get anybody to make ONE of anything any more -- everybody is so automated they want orders for 1000 -- or they'll make you 1 but bill you for the 1,000 :)

I can run a lathe -- manual and / or cnc - but the trick is where to put one!

Sad but true. Most of the metal fab guys locally charge $85+ an hour for something that should take only a few minutes on a machine.

  8. I have a drill press that can go up to 3500rpm. Looking for someone to can make a metal leather burnisher that will fit my drill press. Looking for slots from 1/8 inch wide through 1/2" wide and at the bottom has a needle for burnishing really tight corners and belt slots. Is there anyone that could make such an item Inexpensively for a fellow leather worker?

  9. The problem probably is that the leather handle lost moisture and reduced a bit in size. First thing I would do is to open the nut at the end of the handle or check if that has come undone a bit over the years. Half a turn would probably be enough to give it some play and make your collar rattle. If the moisture content is the issue, than adding some oil might do the trick for you. If you unscrew the nut measure the how far the rod stands out from the leather handle and measure how much room you have in your nut. If that's the problem you can grind off some of the rod and re-tighten the nut.

May not be correct, but that's the first things I would look into.

Thanks Thor! The nut was still tight. I will try adding some oil to the leather handle. I know there is a fair amount of play side to side in that ring.

  10. So I have had my al stohlman 2# maul for a couple years. The issue I am having is the metal collar between the handle and the poly head seems to be getting loose because as I work it rattles or rotates and its really annoying. any ideas on how to fix this? Can't really afford to buy a new one right now.
