Yeah when the bible cover is completed I will post a couple or three pics. Right now I am still waiting on the turquoise dye to come in. I have the leather cut out and have the design all ready to go...just need that dye! By the way...I scored the discontinued Cross Meander Stamps and will now incorporate the stamp into the borders with a camo stamp and seeder...that will look great as well... Ok...I hope to "Git-R-Done" soon...

Thanks for the reply's and please keep them coming. Especially about size and colors you use. I am waiting on a roll of .40 turquoise to use on my bible cover. I think it will look good as I am going to "case" the leather with Angelius turquoise dye and distilled water. My plan is to lightly color the casing water with the dye, afterwords finish with thinned mahogany antique gel so there will be some turquoise color in there and will use the turquoise cord for stitching in certain areas. Hope it turns out....

Good Day Everyone, I received a sample card of waxed polyester cord from Maine Thread Company today. It looks as tho they carry 31 colors now and sizes from .020 to .050. The cord really looks good. My questions are...has anyone tried or use this product? Do you like it? Do you think it will hold up under regular use? I think I might try some because of the wide range of colors, but would like to hear your experiences and thoughts about it. The cord is really reasonably priced, so what do you guys think? Thanks for your thoughts, opinions, negatives, positives, etc...

Thanks Crystal, you have convinced me to use the paint instead of goldleaf. After I posted my question I found out that there are some really good acrylic paints such as antiqued gold, bright gold, bright gold with differing size metalflakes, etc, etc, etc. Apparently, these paints are to be applied like you said until you reach the saturation of color you want and then just use a good finish product like Supershene. I will give that a go and see how it turns out on some scrap. When finally finished I will post some pics. Thanks again!

Greetings Fellow Leathercrafters! As some of you know I am in the process of creating my bible cover. A more complicated venture for me. I will be carving a cross on the front about center or a little above. I would like the cross to be really bright gold color. To color the cross gold...should I paint it with gold acrylic then fix...or...can I glue on some gold leaf using the light brush technique and then seal with clear acrylic and then Supershene it? I am not sure if gold leaf will wear good on leather and the bending and use of the cover. Thanks for any suggestions, comments, tips, or maybe a better way to do it...

Thanks...I am leaning on calf-skin as SLC has some nice skins on sale right now...Yes, I plan on using Veg-Tan for the cover. I have my patterns and tooling plan laid out and will be cutting the leather to size soon. Also I will probably use the double loop braid around the edges. No time like the present to jump in and do something a bit more complicated than key fobs and coasters... I figure if I really think hard about what I'm doing at each step and go slow I should come up with something decent. Thanks again...

Greetings Again...This is my second post...I have been researching and studying all the great info here for a few days now...As I am new to leatherworking, I appreciate all the info, tricks, tips, etc...that I have absorbed so far. Thanks to everyone who post and shares... Now I have another question to ask. I am going to make a bible cover for my new Scofield Study Bible I received for Christmas. What would be a nice material to line the inside with? I am not sure what makes a good liner because I am not sure about whether or not what wrinkles and what doesn't wrinkle when the cover is closed. I am thinking maybe something stretchy? or should I even worry about it? Sorry for the long drawn out explanation/question. Thanks much!

Hello Everyone, I have been searching and searching. Does anyone know of a good video or tutorial on inlaying? I bought a bag of exotics from SLC to try my hand, but just can't seem to find any good instructions. Any help will be greatly appreciated...
