  1. Thanks for the comments! I guess I will have to figure out a better layout for the tooling and give it another try. As for the use of grommets in the belt, it is very much inspired by the traditional knife belts of the Sami people. Here is an example: http://lyckligajag.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/mg_9062.jpg
  2. Hello all! I am a newbie leatherworker and here is my first attempt at tooling on a knife sheath. Many potential improvements to be made, but my biggest issue with it is that the tooling kind of got pushed out again where the knife handle went in. What can be the cause of this? Did I get the casing wrong or what could have happened? The leather is pre-dyed veg tan. Any advice or critique would be most helpful! /M
  3. I use hole punches and carpenter's chisels of various withs to make slots. I think it really works well as a cheap alternative for us hobbyists, even though it requires four mallet strikes instead of one to make a hole. Even the cheapest chisels are plenty good to cut leather, which makes it affordable to build up a very flexible tool set.
  4. Jag bor i Njurunda så det är ju nästgårds! Kul!
  5. Hello! I have been reading these very nice and informative forums for a few months, and thouht that now it is the time to say hello! I am pretty much self-taught when it comes to leatherwork and have so far mostly been making knife sheaths, small pouches and stuff like that for my own use. Right now I'm experimenting to improve my stitching and edges. Here is a knife I made recently: It has a 6" stainless blade and the handle is made from buffalo horn, leather, and nickle silver. The sheath has a wooden insert which contains the blade, with the diamond lapstone stored hidden behind the knife in a slot between the insert and the leather. Coming projects are a binocular case, a belt, and probably a few more knifes if I can find the time for it. Cheers!
