Right. Well thanks for all your help. It sounds as if there aren't a lot of options for this machine when it comes to WF and FD. But for what it's meant to do it's just the ticket :-)

Hi Gregg, Thanks for the reply! The feed dog is - if anything - slightly (Italics to indicate a miniscule amount) higher on the right side. I don't see a ready adjustment for that. It sews neoprene well - but we also call on it to sew fabric covered neoprene. Not the nylon skin on the neoprene but decorative fabric over that. The feed dog is aggressive as I'd expect to sew neoprene, and it's got a bit of a rearward pitch. I'd like to find alternative dogs that would be more akin to those used to sew fabric material. Does that make any sense?

Is there any Common Wisdom regarding Walking Foot machines and their performance in reverse? The 146RB is a Walking Foot machine that does both straight and zig-zag stitch. We do a lot of work with Neoprene and this machine is ideal for that. I know..this is a Leather forum..but it's the only place I know where I can come and ask questions about industrial machines. We also have a Singer 16-188 that performs well for light / medium leather work. It works well in general but not so much in reverse. I got to thinking that perhaps the reason is that the feed dog teeth are angled to the rear to such a degree that it can't get traction in reverse. I've looked online for alternative dogs and walking feet for the 146 but didn't find anything useful. Any help and guidance appreciated!

This is not a leather project but the skill set and equipment are the same. We're located in Metro Denver. We make gun holsters using Rec Fabrics. We have a terrific stitcher working with us but he gets busy with other clients so we're looking for someone else we can work with as well. Cut pieces are provided, the tasks are to sew on an edge binding then fold and sew up to completion. Remote wouldn't work as the shipping would make the cost prohibitive. There are a lot of punch sets like that one - I just don't know if they'll work well on leather of that thickness. Hoping to hear from somebody who has tried them :-)

Seeking advice to find the best way to achieve a 1" hole in 6-8 oz leather. I can't seem to find a hammer driven pnch that large. Is 1" too large for a manual punch? Any help appreciated!

Indeed - it looks like a repaint. I wonder why somebody would go to the trouble?

And I think that's what I'll do. Interesting though. I was unaware of this class of machine prior to this. Never had any reason to look into them, In the words of Emil Faber, "Knowledge is Good" ! And besides... $50!

I have not tested it. I was enroute to a job and didn't have a lot of time. Everything turns over but there's no thread holder etc.. I'll have to rig it up this week and see what and how it does. What's it used for in shoe making? This would be the first time an "industrial" at a yard sale turned out to be something other than this...
