How do you dye the background? Do you use Q-tips or something?

I'm looking for a belt holster for http://www.harborfreight.com/3-inch-ceramic-paring-knife-98183.html -- I want the blade to be fully covered, and a loop up by the far point, away from the blade, above where the handle thins out again, so that the knife can't fall out if I'm taking a group of boys out climbing and I end up hanging upside down just for fun.
