  1. From the album: My "experiments"

I really like the pockets on the outside ends, suitable for even a water bottle
  2. From the album: My "experiments"

    I used Butterick pattern B5658A
  3. From the album: My "experiments"

I had some real trouble when I did the top stitching on the top band.
  4. From the album: My "experiments"

I made this for my husband after repairing his old (store-bought) cellphone case last Saturday. From creating the pattern to finishing it was about 12 hours.
  5. From the album: My "experiments"

I used Tandy's discontinued buffalo calf leather in black.
  6. From the album: My "experiments"

Pockets before sewn to the lining. Bag lining and pockets were from a special odd-lot cowside I got from Tandy for $39.99. Bound edge was made from the (glazed) buffalo calf hide (also from Tandy). Turquoise thread is from Maine Thread Co.
  7. From the album: My "experiments"

Still need to make a running keeper for the strap (I wish I did that before I attached the strap end to the dee!)
  8. From the album: My "experiments"

Pocket on left is pleated and holds a cell phone. Pocket on right is longer and sized to hold a folded reusable shopping bag (that's one of my Tandy reusable bags you see there).
  9. From the album: My "experiments"

Dropped / recessed about 1 inch. Should have made it 1/4 to 1/2 inch narrower for better fit/look.
  10. From the album: My "experiments"

Close up showing tab attaching the dee for the strap, and also the bound edge along the top.
  11. From the album: My "experiments"

Used close out leather on sale at Tandy. It was a dream to work with. Used a 6.75 sq ft pieces (very small remnant left over) purchased at 2.99 sq ft.
  12. From the album: My "experiments"

This one was cut out 6.75 x 7.25, which is what the book Handmade Chic specified (did not follow her instructions for the inside, of course)
  13. I heard bad things about Edge Kote rubbing off so I painted the edges black using Eco Flo Gel Antique Stain as an experiment. I wish all dyes and stains came in a gel medium
  14. I mistakenly grabbed a 1 1/4 in keeper instead of a 1 in (oops!) I ended up dying it black using Eco Flo Gel Antique because the shade of pink came out different than the belt.
  15. From the album: My "experiments"

    Made for my granddaughter Amilia
