I'm looking for 3/4 inch wide strips of veg-tan leather at 8/9 oz thick for dog leads. Basically, I need them the length of a side. I would definitely be interested in buying a side of my own, but my client may not be able to buy as many as I would need her to buy in order to make buying a side worth it.
I've worked at a Tandy, and they don't have anything longer than 72 inches, and that just won't work. Are there any other suppliers that you folks know of that would sell me side-length strips that aren't crazy expensive? I don't care if they aren't trimmed down to a standard length or not. I figured I need the strip to be about 80+ inches. I would also love it if this were a constant supplier with constant pricing.

I don't even know what it's called. If I knew that, it'd be more than helpful. Anyway, I want to recreate this dog leash for a friend. She wants this twist thing to make the handle of the lead, and to attach the clip. I kinda loosened it to look at how it works, but it's confounding my mind. There's no hardware anywhere on the lead, aside from the clip. No rivets or anything, no stitching...just this twist thing magically holding everything together.
I have the feeling that it's super easy once you have the hang of it...

I'm sure this has been posted before, but where might be the best place to get tacks for making saddles? Can I get these things at Home Depot, or do I need to buy them online? I've been looking at shoe tacks, but the shipping is ridiculous in most cases, and I don't want to get the wrong thing. I don't have extra money to waste.

A name plate for a horse's stall done for a friend of mine. I drew the original design in my sketchbook, and will be painting it this week. Still working on carving letters...not my favorite thing.

Is it possible to use gold leaf on leather and have it be durable? I've been using metallic gold acrylic paint so far...but that just lacks luster. Has anyone tried this?

I am wanting to make a replica of a little pouch from the game Skyrim. I have the pieces cut and ready for a prototype, but I wanted some feedback on one of the seams.
Here's a screenshot of the little bag:
Now, it looks like it was sewn inside out, and then flipped so that the seams are on the inside, like you would do for a messenger bag, but there is lacing along the top flap, (I've concluded that there is a pocket on the inside of the top flap). My question is how might that work? A hidden seam plus outside lacing? I know that the folks who create these things don't necessarily care about how it would be made in real life, so it is entirely possible that this is impossible or unnecessary.
I'm curious if anyone has any ideas as to how to do this, or if this is a technique that I don't know about. Also, if anyone has any ideas about pattern layout, let me know. I did prototype one, but I haven't assembled it yet. I'm hoping to get a identical, or near identical, usable replica.

Ah, thank you. I noticed the concave curves, too, but I didn't try to put them there. I've always wondered how to make a quiver slightly convex. Yes, the stitching took most of the time

Hey, folks. I was wondering if anyone has any information on what the quivers of Rohan's archers looked like from The Lord of the Rings. I have the movies, so I can frame through them for reference, but I figured I'd check here, too. I've found plenty of reference for Legolas's and Faramir's quivers, but I am specifically interested in building a Rohirrim quiver. I was planning on it being a back quiver, but a saddle quiver would be cool, too.
Any LOTR fans out there that might be able to shine some light on the subject?

Ah, I understand. I wouldn't post photos of my own patterns, (or ones that I buy), either. I've found that when doubling leather the outside and inside don't match up when rolled. That is to say, the outside will become shorter than the inside. If glued first, you could get pinching, but I'm not totally sure on that. With books that I've done, I haven't had much trouble, but I don't have tons of experience with layering on gear and armor. I do know that sewing through it can be a pain. When I did my plug, I was going through 2 layers of 7/9 and one layer of 4/5. Just be sure the sewing holes all line up.
Let me know what you find with the wood forms. I haven't used them for quivers, but there are a few designs that I have where the pattern alone won't be enough to shape the leather.

I used 7/9 for the main body and plug, and then a layer of 4/5 for the top and bottom "bands". I did do some experimenting with 4/5 for the body, but I found it to be too flimsy. You could double it, I don't see the problem in that. Doubling circular patterns can be bearish, though. I usually avoid it just because its a pain in the neck for me. Although, you could have the inside of the quiver finished, which would look good. I usually line mine with shearling or I have an arrow bag that I can draw up over the fletchings.

How do I craft the type of padding seen in dog collars and horse bridles? Materials, methods...I don't know really anything about this topic. Any good insight out there?

I did add a slight bit of water, but I couldn't find a clamp. I did hold it with my fingers for a while, though. Hopefully it holds.

Yes, it is! I'll be getting the straps done today for it.
How did you attach the stone? is it just glued on with the leather helping to hold it in?
I cut a hole in the top layer of leather shaped like the stone so it sits down in the quiver a bit. Then I used Gorilla Glue to hold it in there. I'm not sure if that will work long-term, but it seems to be holding up for now.

Made a quiver for a friend today (and yesterday). Not really based on anything; just sort of sprung out of my head. I found a green stone in my misc beads box, and set it in. I wasn't sure on how to do that, but I think it turned out ok. The only thing I didn't get a chance to do was to line it with something. I wanted to use a thick sheepswool or something, but I didn't have any.

I am working on some practice pieces, and I was given a straight dagger to make a sheath for. I found some images online of dagger sheaths that have the style that I am looking for, but I am unsure on how to achieve the form. I know how to wet mold, but how dose one get the pointed end like on these sheaths?

Looking for a Pulling Breast Collar pattern

I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I haven't been on here in a blue moon or two.
I'm looking for a pulling style breast collar pattern with a dee ring center. It'll be send to a friend who has no experience in horse tack, but is great with all things leather.
If I had my own tools and leather with me, I'd make one myself, but the downstairs neighbors don't appreciate the noise generated.
