  1. I've had this beautiful side of elk skin for years and I'd love to make a bag out of it. The problem is that it seems to stretchy to take much of the abuse a bag I'd like to make out of it would be put through.

I was thinking of interfacing it with some less expensive split. Has anyone been down this path? If so, can you advise me? What would you use as adhesive for interfacing such a large piece of soft leather?

  2. After an accident 12 years ago, my hands aren't as steady as they once were and I've been having an increasingly difficult time applying an even coat of edge dye and getting it to stay on the edge and not wander off onto the rest of my work.

Then I saw something my daughter used to apply eye shadow:

These little guys do an amazing job of keeping the edge dye right where I want it!

Just wanted to pass it along

  3. Up to this point, I have been using the standard diamond shape chisels for marking out my stitching holes but I must admit I see the English pricking irons being used in you tube videos whenever I see demonstrations on the construction of fine leather goods and I lust after them.

    My question is two part

    1) Why do they seem to be the favorite of 'fine' leather craftsmen (what's their advantage)

    2) why are they so %&^*&%^ expensive?

Thanks in advance for your replies

  4. I've been having trouble getting a good even application with my edge finishing using the standard wool daubers and even tried a Q-Tip (that was a bust.)

I've been thinking of putting my edge finisher into a sponge or roll top applicator bottle and trying it that way.

has anyone else tried this od does anyone see any problems? It seems to me to be a perfect solution
