About Me
As of June 2014 I'm fairly new to leather working. I've been doing it as a hobby for a couple of years but I am just really getting serious about it and would eventually like to make a real business out of it. I just bought a Cobra class 3 leather sewing machine and I'm just getting used to sewing with it. My main focus at the moment is learning to make "professional looking" holsters and belts. I am also a certified firearms instructor and have hunted and enjoyed owning and shooting firearms since I was a kid. That explains my interest in holster and gun related leather products making. I have always preferred leather over synthetic holsters. I also raised horses for several years and was always interested in the way saddles and tack were made. I joined this group to hopefully make some connections and pick up some tips from people that have been doing this long enough to know what they're doing. One of my biggest problems is that I'm sort of a perfectionist and I am never satisfied with anything I make. When I look at my work I only see the flaws. I know leather working is an art and mastering it takes many years of practice. So I hope I can gain some insight from some of the master craftsmen in this group and maybe I will feel a little better when I sell something I've made.
