  1. Thanks, I bought it and like it ok but lately I'm burnishing and waxing instead. I like the finish. Just a lot of work.
  2. Conrad, sorry, for this late response. I totally haven't come in here since the day I posted, here. Anyway, your post was so amazing and informative. You must have been working on this for quite a while. I'm starting to see that you are correct, burnishing an edge is much less complicated and time consuming that doing a hand finished edge painting job! Thanks to all of you for your kind responses. I will try to be better about checking in here. I'm putting an image of an edge I painted with some Giardini edge paint about a month ago. After spending a few hundred bucks on edge paints, I'm feeling that I like the look and permanency of a nice burnished and waxed edge. It's not easy to do with chrome but I'm now doing a rolled edge handle that is thick enough to try some burnishing and waxing on. I really like Fiebings Leather Balm with Atom Wax. Thanks again for the information all of you posted and being able to soak up conclusions that took you (all) years to come to is helping me loads!
  3. Chief3174! I never saw this post until today! I should hang out here more often, huh? haha! Thank you for the in depth post. I happened to find this bag in the top of my closet, I did finish lacing it as best I could but the very two things you mentioned were the things that disqualified this bag to even be worth finishing. Since I tried making this bag, almost 2 years ago, I have learned the importance of SEQUENCE when designing/putting a bag together! I looked at this bag the other day and thought..."what was I thinking"! Or better yet, I was not thinking at all! After 2 years of trials and way more errors than successes, I have learned to ponder, take my time and think through the process before jumpin' in. Thank you again for your really GREAT comments. You not only answered me, you gave me the reasons it is important to do things the way you mentioned..I love knowing the "why's" I should do something. It makes me understand the project more and in the end, my confidence increases. It's been 2 yrs now since I started my leather journey and I have only touched the tip of the iceberg. You are an accomplished leather worker, your bag is totally GORGEOUS. Thank you for helping me out and I'm sorry for not checking in here sooner. If I had, I might have completed this blue and orange bag. Bless you and hope your leatherworking journey is still moving forward! Marlys
  4. Bag making is always on my mind.  Wallets, too.

I like combining leather with other things like Cordura or Kraft Tex (the stuff the little Levi's tag on the back of our jeans) or different fabrics.

Saw your update on the main forum page, so I clicked. These bags look really professional. I would have never thought you were new to leathercraft. Nice.

  5. I think you did a great job for your first bag and not using a pattern! Where do I order 10 of them? Hmmm? heh...just kidding. I know you are through with purses. By the way, that color job is really beautiful. I love the depth it gives the bag!
  6. Are you the guy that makes acrylic templates from customer patterns?

  7. Skald, I have been searching for this as well. Through a lot of trial and error, I can tell you that the Tandy stuff is not it. Look at Giardini Edge Paint http://lekoza.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=57 My Coach bags have that rubbery thick edge coat and it's awesome. I tried all that Tandy stuff I was told would turn out the same and it doesn't. If you want it glossy, they have a coating for gloss. Otherwise it's good as is out of the bottle. This site has the edge burner (their own, not the Campbel Randall which sells for $225.00 and they sell what they call "Electric edge creasing iron" for $49.95. http://lekoza.com/Tools/ElectricEdgeMolder
  8. Hi, LumpenDoodle2! Thank you for the kind welcome. I am not even sure if I am "replying" in the right place. I know this is a great place but I have never taken the time to learn how to use it as I mostly just come to LW.net to read and learn. Thanks again for your reply and welcome!
  9. I'm new here and found my answer. I don't know how to remove this post, or I would, sorry. Anyway, what you do to program the digital servo is: Punch the DOWN button until 5.0 shows steady on the read out. Then hit the UP button until it says "5.3" Then hit the DOWN button ONE TIME Then hit the UP BOTTON until you reach the speed you want to stitch at. Once you arrive there, just wait until the machine sets itself and then stitch away. Slow it down the same way.
  10. I have a Cobra Class 18 with a speed reducer and Brushless Digital Servo Motor on it. I have sewn on it for a year, now and feel that I am ready to speed up the motor but cannot remember the sequence to program the motor to run faster. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance. READ MY ANSWER IN THE POST BELOW. HOW TO PROGRAM THE SPEED ON THE DIGITAL SERVO MOTOR.
  11. I want to double loop lace a gusseted bag. Got the lining glued to the bag and the lacing holes punched to the gusset, the back and the front. Started attaching the gusset to the back of messenger bag with the first lacing beginning at the bottom middle of the bag. When I got up to the end of the gusset on the left side, I realized I don't know if I should continue around the bag (back) and down from the top to the other side, ignoring the edges of the gusset or turn and do the gusset? I may be out of line starting a new thread for this and if so, I apologize ahead of time. This is my first post and I am obviously new to leatherworking. I would appreciate any help. I did a search in here and couldn't find a topic that matched my inquiry or I would not have made this thread.
