Thanks, she pulled the roll out of a pile of leather, unraveled it and I saw that Horween stamp and thought "No way, can't afford this" but that sections of sides needed to be moved so was on sale. I checked for more but that one was it so we grabbed it up!

Howdy folks, for my oldests 13th birthday I took her to Springfield Leather to pick out the parts and leather for a school bag/purse. Somehow she found some 5oz Horween that was marked 3.49 sqft in a shiny black that she loved and I could afford. Then it was off to the lambskin liner, buckles and latches, we left with our hands full and high hopes, after about a week this was the result. I did the construction and she drew the design, anyway here are some pics!

Howdy folks, this is the first bag that I have made back in November. I had seen some really cool designs on the net but could not afford the price tag so decided to try it myself. I went over to Springfield leather and asked around, they pointed me to some 5oz chrome tan leather and solid brass hardware. Copper rivets and some poly thread later and began my project, to say that I was nervous was an understatement but I think it all worked out great. The bag is very comfortable and tough, I carry it with me everyday with all my stuff inside and no complaints so far. The saddle stitching was slow but really fun and the straps can be clipped together for satchel type carry or separated to use as a backpack. Anyway here are the pics, enjoy!

I have been messing with leather for several years now. Mostly sheaths for knives that I forge, some holsters too. This fall I saw a few leather bags that really wowed me but could not afford the price tag but I could afford the leather and tack. So I learned how to saddle stitch and a few other skills from watching youtube and made the bag that I had wanted. Problem is that I had so much fun that now I am addicted to it, so I found this forum and plan on learning as much as I can. Thanks for having me! Take care, Jim
