Thanks for the positive comments. No liner, BTW. Used one for several months now, seems to be holding up well. -

The phone is 2 1/4" x 4 1/2". My pattern is 3" x 4 3/4". There is some stretch during tooling, so I complete the top piece then use it as a pattern for the bottom piece, ensuring they are both exaclty the same size. -
I have a walking foot Consew 18 that I am trying to sell, asking $600. Before I place the ad on Craigslist, I thought I would offer it here first. I have sewn belt thickness veg tan with a size 24 needle and 207 thread. That is about the limit of this machine a bit. I am in the DFW area. Please PM me if interested.

Thanks Art. I sent Ron a note to see if he had a 16x64 or an equivelant, but he said he couldn't help me. I will try Bob at Toledo. I am pretty sure I won't find a 16x64, but I am not sure what I could use in it's place. I appreciate the help.

I recently picked up a Consew 18 and a Juki LU562, both walking foot machines. I plan to use them both and decide which one I would like to keep. I am, however, a little overwhelmed regarding thread and needle sizes. The 562 uses 135x17, which seems pretty straight forward. The Consew manual requires a 16x64 for sewing leather. I have seen from other posts that this needle is tough to find. I also read that a 135x16 will work in it's place. Can anyone verify if this is true, and if I need to adjust the machine in anyway to use it. Also, can anyone recommend a good onlinie source of thread and needles? I would like to use some 22-25 sizes. I am confident that a 22 will handle 138 thread, so what size of needle is required for 207? Advice on point types would be helpful as well. Sorry for all of the questions, but I am new to machine sewing. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ken That was actually a bit of a screw up. I blocked the border itself with a couple of coats of Super Sheen, then airburshed with eco-flo dyes. I let the peice dry, then went back with a Q-tip and removed the dye from the meander. Very tedious, and messed up surrounding dye a bit where I wasn't careful. Had to do a little touch up here and there, it did not come out perfect. I would do it differently next time. Maybe make a cut-out template to use in addition to some kind of resist. On another note, I have really not done well with the water based finishes. I might stick to Feibings.
