Hello all, I think my power converter is a 'Dud' device, but not sure, I'm in the UK. I used the power mallet for about 45 minutes and suddenly stopped working. I looked at the converter and it was really hot. What I know about electrics you can write it on a small postage stamp, and my brain is not what is was lol. I am hoping that the converter is just faulty and I need to contact where I bought it and get my money back. I have bought a more expensive one, can operate devises up to 300W, would this help. please help! just to ease my mind. I hope theres no damaged to the PM motor. I appreciate you comments. ATB Brian

hello m8 I'm not good at describing so yous have look at the pics lol. thr middle horizontal shelf is not hull length from front to back..there a a gap at the bottom at the back.....why? for a sake of a few cm's they could of put it all the way..more sturdy that way. M8 if you made your lush organizer, you can make your own! its not expensive wood, and not any hard like tongue in groove etc lol. £25 is worth it for getting a template. hope the pics solve the queries? Martyn, A emazing piece of workmanship there. The finished peice with the tools in bring the size of it, spot on m8. I think like anyone the problem is you can get enough Holes for everything in one place...and even when you make it there always one tool with no hole and end in the draw! I'm thinking of getting some small table top shelves to put all the lager items, like dyes, resoline, glue etc. All my leather tools are still at Ian's place along with a old drill press and a small drill press! So off to the Le Prevo in Monday to get the ettential tools I need for now, handy being in the town. Right off some more leather stamping!! ATB Brian

Aye pal two stokes last January..on my birthday of all days lol. I'm alive m8....that's all matters..been hard but I'm for better than some people so I thank my lucky stars.. About that in a pm don't want to get bogged down with my life story ha ha! Aye saddle stitch I learn ages ago! I couldn't get away with the single stitch that Ian tought me! So much easier...and friendly with the fingers! Passed my driving assessment a few hours ago! So I'm buzzing! The dvla with covert my licence to a automatic with adaptions...5hrs driving lessons and im them fully back on the road, after the re issue my licence. Like you said leather making is my hobby now, theropy more than else. Sitting in a hospital for 7 months one handed jigsaw puzzles was ok for me then..time I feel to get back on the saddle again. Catch you in a bit m8. ATB Bri

Hello Martyn, That's a beast!! How's it going? For all I can't grind my knives just now, I'm get into slowly with the leatherwork with my sheaths. Small steps and all that! When i thought a rack/organiser a small lump of wood and a few hole drilled...but ya Defo took it to all top level of morkmamship! Good one m8! I like this, only one think I'm jealous ha ha! What's your leather work Like? Mine is ok making sheaths as you know, but stamping and carving is an all new game to me...not as easy as some people think. But it's taking it slow for me. Catch u later pal, I'm off to my driving assessment, 14 months since I drove a car...it's a step in the right direction. ATB Bri

Hello all, King's X put me onto a Barry Knight swivel knife, and cant wait to get it, as my crap one might as well me made from Jelly :-) Been reading up on the forum and my advice for members on my thread. At the moment I hoping to get either granite of marble slab before long. I'm enjoying reading all about in and out of leatherwork. ATB Brian

I meant a hollow grind.. My brain is not working properly lol ATB Brian

Hello Michelle, i thank you for your links for sharpening. I know how sharpening blades. Leaning my 'trade' being a custom knife maker, and producing a fare ammout of leather strops to use, either with my cut throat razors or over knives. Unfortunately the blade in question is sub standard..and I need a quality blade. I toyed with making a double grind blade but getting the heat treatment spot on was too time consuming. I thank u again for time and input. If I'd just got a quality swivel knife instead of waiting it would ok now!! Typical me I'm afraid lol. Take care, ATB Brian

Hello, I'm not saying that somebody can make some money, why not! If you can make a living, all well in done.. My rant is the crap people sell on the net, over priced and no build quality at all...makes a mockery of the whole 'build a stamp rack' in general. It doent take much to make a rack of a lump of wood, drill holes, sand & polish and sell it tbh! If the craftworkmanship n the quality is applied to every rack, I for one will look and maybe think of buying one...but at a fare price!!!! Seems like another 'rant' lol 18' long!! What a beast! It's good to get all your tools in one or two places...mine are all over at the mo...finding something lost is my problem..well also 'Thinking' my problem!! Great, looking in the net for ideas not only stamps but other tools and accessories etc to build... ATB Brian Hello,

Hello all, well I tried king's x design.. bad enough using my new stylus today...shakes all over lol. I think apart getting the leather wet enough...the crap blade, my lack of experience, using my wrong hand...(excuses excuses!) Back on it again in a few moments. ATB Brian

Hello from a miserable Friday in the UK, King's X, I forgot to mention your great advice and the picture, I will do that design today and use for my practice forever on. Barry King, ive heard of his tools, so I might invest in a blade. One thing King's X, the description on my cheap swivel knife I bought was: blade material: metal construction ha ha ha! 'Nuff said!!! Colt W Knight, thank you for your advise, I will put in action today....fingers x'd do mean cut flat with the blade?, I was using the edge of the blade, not flat!! Thank you all again for helping me out. ATB Brian
-
thank you for you advice. I'm going to get a better blade,if I cant sort the blade out by re grinding in the workshop. I've stopped properly, but doesn't keep the blade. Years of being a custom knife maker, ill not go into sharpening a knife blade or the type of metal it is.....a 'Heated subject' as I found out over the years lol. great advice, as read I can put into action, then see how I progress. love learning. ATB Brian

Thank you so much. I did sloped the knife before and after. But like Said I think the blade is sub standard.. You know stray away when blades are not right.. The heat treatment is sub standard, let alone the what it's made of. Your advice is spot on and I'll get onto now! Thanks again for your advice ATB Brian

I would do the same, but not got any wood around!! This is ok for now, until I get decent piece of wood. ATB Brian

Hello all, I tried today using a swivel knife for the first time. I was left handed, but since the strokes I adapted to use my right hand. All I can say is it is not as people seem. Apart from my shaking hand I had few good part...but more bad ones. I admit my swivel knife I not expensive, and I think the blade is sub standard. Stopped with jewels rouge, but the edge went dull quickly. Cased the leather like I read on this forum. I must admit, it was very relaxing. Any hints tips etc. I appreciate them all...even if it look bad to you...I can take lol Thank for viewing. Btw the work was sponged after, just incase you wondered. ATB Brian

thank all for the thread on casing. it help me massively. ATB Bri

Hello all, A bit of a rant today! Search on the net to find a stamp rack/ organiser. what I saw mostly cheap wooden rack, priced up to £30-£40+. I could build a block wood, and drilled some holes to place then in if had the wood lol. some people are so lazy and spent their money on overpriced pieces of dog toffee. Sorry Rant over. I admit what I converted into my leather stamp organiser/rack isn't pretty, but under £5 it do for now. thank you for viewing. ATB Brian

Hello there, I found the 'power mallet' on YouTube. I was exited for the possibility to stamp my leather one handed..then the price put me off!! I and practicing with my disabled left arm, not with success. More research needed I'm afraid..and work out the advanced buying the power mallet. Kind regards Brian

Wow!! A great reply. I understand I'm not the only one with a disibility, but we adapt to to the problems in life. My theropy is learning to use my Brain again. Writing, reading, spelling, memory and my speech was lost for few months before my brain repairs itself as best it can. Thanks I look forward to write in 'workaround' about my adaptions. Like you said taking time to rest is so important! The sealed bag is great and a spray bottle. I was looking about my tools that I have already and how, I've got old stamp press for my knives..might work out if it's suible on the leather!! Straight stamping the border for example (using the correct force of course lol) getting the off set position to use a bevelling stamp is going to bit harder, I hope to research about that. There's is a lot to research tbh and my reading and taking the info is not good ha ha! Short burst then rest. I appeciate all the 'how do it' and write it on my notes. Take care ATB Brian

Hello there, thanks for reply. Funny enough as we speak I am currently working on my grip. ive just got my heavey brass makers stamp today, so I trialed a without the handle, padded some to see what what. like I said earlier its trial and error. theirs a trick wrapping a elastic band round your fingers for extra grip, why not. I got a small sealed tub with copper coins in, making it heavy to use with leather items so they don't move...well in theory! I've had 13 months to adjust one handed, so ill be fine.. the bad arm is not totally useless so work out what I can use it for and adjust accordingly. I am thoroughly enjoying my lease of life with the leather making, all down to friend whos made a knife and himself wanted to stamp the sheath...'Bingo!' could I do that??? 7 month in 3 hospitals the only hobby was getting myself better, so now I have something to look forward to, Wup! Wup! The Stamps I bought seem coming from the ring of Saturn, but all in good time ill get there. ATB Brian
