Hi all, New to making boots here. I know the basics about leather and boots, however there exists a dizzying amount of information on the Internet that I am struggling to find clarity and consistency in while trying to further educate myself. I know a lot of that will only come with experience and time. In the meanwhile, I am seeking anyone out there with a good and comprehensive knowledge about various types, tans, and sources of leather used for boots and shoes of all sorts--work, dress, and anything in between--that would be willing to talk with/at me on the phone a bit? At least for a bit of a jumpstart on the process. Ultimately I would like to learn to make a variety of boots and shoes, and hope to at least begin to build a basic understanding i could offer to potential customers and their questions. I am located in the US, in the pacific time zone. Can anyone tell me what Lisaro leather is, what type of tan etc, and what it might be best used for?

Hi all, Pretty new to boot making and looking for some advice on leather. I live in the Pacific Northwest, which if you don't know is a soggy muddy mess across a lot of the region for a lot of the year. This as you may imagine wreaks utter havoc on leather boots, or leather anything else that is subject to the weather. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for types of leather or particular tans that might have a better chance than others of holding up to these sorts of conditions in the long run. I know I know, take proper care of them, don't wear them in the rain, expect them to die young, wear rubber boots, etc. etc. This question is about particular types of leather that might possibly stand up to a wet climate better than others. If the answer is none, well, so be it. But worth checking! Any thoughts or resources would surely be appreciated, thanks.
