  1. CowboyBob - Great, thanks!! I was on the Singer website looking at those lists, but never saw that whole list. Perfect! Thanks so much for pointing that out
  2. Hey Eric, it's been a while but I thought I'd check just in case. I was able to find a manual for the 281 series which has helped, but unfortunately it is missing the parts list! AGGHH! I'm on the hunt to replace some clamp screws for the feed bar carrier & crank but I haven't been able to find a parts list. Do you by chance have one for the 2281?
  3. I recently bought a Singer 2281F362 and need to make some adjustments to the feed dog. According to the one manual I could find after much searching: https://wiki.artisansasylum.com/images/b/b6/Singer-281-1-service.pdf I need to loosen the clamp screws on both the feed bar carrier and the feed bar crank. However they are all rather stuck and were already looking worn. This machine had been in storage for years (and it's always dusty out here in the desert) and who knows when these adjustments were last made. I've found various suggestions on the internet, however most of them seem to be for dealing with stuck screws, not so much stripped screws. The single screw on the feed bar crank feels soft and is definitely stripping. I'm unsure how to proceed! Also if I succeed in getting these screws loose, will I be able to find replacements? The manual I linked to seems to be missing the parts list. Any suggestions welcome! Thanks ya'll
  4. Uwe, I just adjusted the foot lift to be lower. We'll see how that changes things. Though this got me curious, what's the reason why one would want to adjust the foot lift?
  5. Thanks for your response Uwe. What you say makes sense, I didn't consider changing the foot lift. I will try that. I'd already been watching that video on Youtube to make the other adjustments and it's been so helpful! Thanks so much for putting those videos out into the world, they are SO much easier and more helpful than the manual I have!
  6. Good idea! I will get a video made soon. I already tried adjusting the feed dog to make it lower, and that didn't seem to make a difference.
  7. I have a Consew 226R that I've been using for a couple of years. It's been a great machine, but there is one thing I can't seem to fix. At some time soon after I got it I did some timing adjustment with some phone help from the shop I bought it from. Ever since then the presser foot seems to come too far down and if I start sewing fast it sounds like the feet are slamming against the feed dog, just seems like they shouldn't be hitting against each other that hard. I've tried adjusting the timing again and also the height of the feed dog. I'm not sure what else to try and am not finding anything that sounds right in the manual. Any suggestions out there?
  8. Eric, This is great! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, this is all super helpful. I've got it all cleaned up and almost ready to sew. I'm excited to have a machine that's better for more lightweight materials. I mostly use a Consew 226 and a Sailrite Ultrafeed for rubber & vinyl, and have been relying on an old home machine for lighter tasks, though it's always a bit of a struggle. Sounds like this will be just what I've needed. I have no plans to sew leather with this machine, probably mostly nylon packcloth & similar materials. The clutch will take a bit of getting used to, I will try it out for a while before considering whether or not to look for a servo. I've found plenty of the parts marked for the 281, I'm assuming those will also fit. I did finally find a manual for the 281-1, 281-3, & 281-21, I'll include a link. Do you know if a specific manual exists for the 2281? https://wiki.artisansasylum.com/images/b/b6/Singer-281-1-service.pdf Thanks again!!
  9. Wiz - Thanks for the explanation of clutch v. servo! That helps a lot. The Consew I have has a servo motor, but I have no other experience with industrial machines. The Singer I just bought has a clutch motor. How difficult is it to switch it to a servo motor? Eric, I will upload a few photos, let me know if others may help.
  10. Eric, Great! Thanks so much! I'll have to wait til I get back to my workshop tomorrow to take some photos. I'm not sure if it's a clutch motor, but I think so? The person I bought it from also didn't know. I know how clutch and servo motors work differently, or at least how they operate, though I'm not sure how to tell the difference without running the machine.
  11. I just bought one of these machines, looks exactly like the one in the photo in the first post. I could hardly find any info, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. Looks like it just needs a thorough cleaning/oiling and hopefully not much else. Though I'm having a hard time finding any information about it online, no manuals or even any references to it, just this post. I'd love to know more about them, and also have a basic manual. Does anyone have access to a manual or have an idea of where I could find one? The model # is 2281F362
